Y/N's POV

Fifteen years ago... I remember that as a time of terror for me... Maybe I was ten or so, but it didn't matter how old I was. The Nether was scary in general. After being taken from my village by an army of Shadow Knights; which I cried the whole time in the bag; they threw me on the Netherack ground and told me the Shadow Lord had been waiting. I don't know how I'm any use... I can't remember why they took me in the first place. I met a man named Vylad, who told me there was no escape from the Nether since he destroyed the portal. That wasn't the only person I met though... A man approached me when he saw me crying in the corner of the fortress.
"You want to escape?" He had asked me. I wiped away the tears from my eyes and looked up at him. He looked strong and crimson-orange hair streamed down his back, an emerald gaze stoning me. I didn't even know what to say... "It's okay... I'm trying to get out of here too... How old are you?" I didn't answer that question either. I just stared at him with my E/C eyes. He sighed and held out his hand to help me up, so I took it lightly. Once I got off the ground, our locked gaze continued to hold. "My name's Laurence. Laurence Zvhal. I came here to rescue a werewolf pup with my old friend and the one I l-love... Aphmau..." he broke his eyes away from me and looked at the ground before looking back, "I got trapped in here after the portal was broken."
"I-I'm sorry..." I murmured, "M-my name is Y/N... I was taken from my village, for... I don't remember why... they kidnapped me in a bag... I didn't like it in there... the Shadow Lord had apparently been wanting me for some reason, so... h-here I am..." Laurence was still holding my hand, but he put his other hand on my shoulder.
"I guess we both want to get out of here for pretty much the same reason..." Laurence gave me a small smile. I smiled a bit back.
Sooner than I knew it, the wyvren had showed up. He had come to rescue Laurence, but Laurence had taken me with him, holding me in his arms. The crash impact on the ground in the Overworld scarred me for life. The feeling of the dirt in my mouth suffocating me, the weight of Laurence on me taking away my air. When I had gathered my composure, Laurence opened his eyes with a flash and yelled,
"Y/N... RUN. RUN AWAY FROM HERE."
"But Laurence... you saved my life..."
"You can pay me back later... Go off and live your life... don't let anything hold you back, just forget the Nether and---"
"Laurence!!!"
"Run, Y/N. Run."

And I ran.

"Everything will be okay," I told myself, but it's hard for me to believe my own lying words. They stuck to my tongue like honey filled with poison and I thought maybe for the first time, I could feel my mouth cringe. I hadn't eaten in days, so it felt like anything I shoved down would come back up. I didn't have anything to keep me warm. Not a scarf, not a hat, not even a coat. It began to storm badly while I ran far away from Laurence and I was not prepared. Now out in the rain, my fingers were pruned and my clothes were moist. My shoes filled with raindrops and my pants felt plastered to my body. With my skin as slick as marble floors, the straps on my shirt had refused to stay. I hated the feeling of water getting all over me, but there's not much I could've done about that. Trying to scream out for someone would've be pitiful, for no one would ever have heard. My lonely voice would've been drowned in the sound of the thunder. I had stepped in a mud puddle, as deep as my ankle, and I felt my body collapsing. Not just from the weight of the mud on my foot, but the fear and the exhaustion that pulled me down. I landed face-first, feeling the impact on my chest to my stomach. It made me want to vomit. The mud clang to me like a parasite and I grabbed into it with my hands as if it was the only ledge left for me to have gripped on before I fell. I thought I was overreacting. There must've been a lever that was in my head that wasn't turned on. Maybe it was broken. But how could've it gotten worse than this?! Finally I found a village: Meteli. I stayed there until it was attacked by Zane Ro'Meave of Okasis, and I found myself running again. It was a constant game. Finding a village, it being destroyed and finding another. Fourteen years of playing that stupid game and you think I'd be bored of it. Finally I returned back to Phoenix Drop, Laurence's village, only to find it completely ruined and destroyed. A bluenette man found me by the wall gates and attacked me shortly after my arrival.
"Who are you?!" He had yelled at me, his blade at my throat.
"Y/N... Y/N L/N..."
"Where are you from?!"
"N-nowhere... literally nowhere... I came here looking for someone named Laurence Zvhal..."
"L-Laurence...?" the man's eyes clouded. "Laurence and others from our village disappeared years ago. I've been waiting at this exact spot... waiting for them to come back..."
"I-I'm so sorry..." I murmured as he withdrew his sword. Then I asked, "May I wait with you?" And from that day forward, the head guard of Phoenix Drop, Dante, and I would wait at the old Phoenix Drop wall gates for the missing people to return. It was quite an enjoyable experience even with all of the sadness the deed brought. I met Dante's wife, Kawaii~Chan, and daughter, not to mention I learned everyone in the village's name. Lord Levin welcomed me into the village eventually, after learning that Dante and I had become good companions. Dante, in fact, treated me a bit like a daughter to him and him and Kawaii~Chan let me stay in their home until I built a little cabin nearby. Nekoette, Dante and Kawaii~Chan's daughter, enjoyed coming over to my cabin and asking me billions of questions before asking me if I wanted to pick flowers with her, which I always gladly excepted. She would put flowers in every nook and cranny of my house and make it look like a wonderland. She still always visits me, a smile on her face. I also still wait with Dante at the wall gates, even though there seems to be no point anymore. I've thought about leaving this same old routine and find another village for me to stay. That is, until the one day I didn't go out with Dante to wait at the wall gates, he came back into the village with more people than just himself.
