Legends to Mourn

Y/N's POV

Things will never go back to the way they were. I've been back in Phoenix Drop for three days and ever since our feet touched the soil, Laurence has been planning for the day we'll leave again. Constantly reading books, mapping out all that he knows; some might say he's becoming infested with obsession for an answer. But I know he isn't hungry for knowledge, he's only nearly desperate. He's sworn between us to not tell a soul of our plans, but Aphmau has been growing more curious of Laurence's strange behavior every minute she sees him. On a different note, Nicole has already been contacted to come pick up Dmitri, but he's refusing to leave my side. What will happen if Laurence and I disappear? I consider to suggest bringing him along, but Laurence would never approve. Over his dead body would he like to be responsible for a child that is not his own kin. Day four of being in Phoenix Drop arrives and I'm staring at the armor stands for the first time in a while, specifically staring at Garroth's old armor. Garroth became a legend of this village. Everyone idolizes him it seems, and mourns his absents. Could Laurence and I become the new lost legends of this village? Would they even remember our feet walked along the cobblestone paths and that our hands touched the trees and grass? Or may we fade into a memory of the past until our return--- if we return. Nothing is definite anymore. Everything is 'if'. Most days, I'd kill myself to know what would happen in the future, but the fear of knowing is just as bad as not knowing sometimes. A hand brushes my shoulder, surprising me and causing myself to turn around quickly. It's Lord Levin, to my dismay. He looks tired and worn, but somehow there's a lightness in his eyes that I've never discovered before.
"Hello, Y/N."
"Hey, Lord Levin," I reply, formally and awkwardly as always. Why do things always have to be so stern around him?! I can't help but be annoyed by this situation, for it reoccurs too often for my liking.
"Laurence told me of your plans to leave with him," Levin tells me. This strikes me and I just stare at him, unsure of how to respond. Laurence told me to tell no one and he goes and tells Levin?! Of all people?! I don't know whether I'm more shocked or sour about this. "Y/N, I just want to tell you a few things before you go." The formalness leaves him, as it seems, and I suddenly see him as a friend that I hadn't seen since I opened my eyes. One that you don't really remember until they give you that comforting gaze you wish they'd always leave you with.
"You know why I'm leaving, right?" I clarify so he doesn't believe it's because I think Phoenix Drop is a dump. Levin nods,
"I do. And I just want you to know that I'm going to miss you and Laurence." He looks around for a moment, "We all are."
"Yeah, I'm going to miss this place... I hope to return though."
"Me too," he looks down at his hands, then looks back up at me. "Y/N, I'm sorry for always being so formal... so strict with you... I shouldn't have been... it probably confused you..." Levin's genuine sadness makes me sympathetic.
"It's okay, I understand. You're the lord, there's no need to talk to me like I'm your lifetime best bud," I smile and he lets out a laugh. Suddenly, his eyes grow longing and before I know what's happening, his lips are pressed against mine. Out of utter shock, I don't respond until he stares at me again, his lips away from mine. All of this time I thought he hated me... he just acted that way so I wouldn't know... so I wouldn't know that he loves me...
"Don't die, Y/N," he tells me, sounding like he will burst into tears at any moment. I almost have to stifle embracing him. I feel for him and that the feelings he has will never be returned. I say all that I can say; all that I have to say in response,
"I can't."
