Chapter 22: Beside You.
~ Audra ~
Before we left the beach house I announced I was going to check things out, maybe in hopes of seeing my parents. All I hoped for was to settle the problems between us. The thought of facing them together scared me, but this had to be done. I was tired of looking over my shoulder fearing they'll be there to get me, or worse, the people I've come to care for.
This meant Roman was going to follow me into the house, and since Roman followed Myles wanted to as well. That leaving Rihanna with Kylie all alone, she joined us as we walked onto the land.
My heart was heavy and it felt like I couldn't breathe when I stepped into the place that held many memories I hold dear to myself. Memories that took place in the arms of my parents and the walls of this home.
I searched high and low for them. Every nook and cranny I knew of was touched yet they weren't there. But what I did find was a small note.
Better luck next time, Darling.
-Mum and Dad.They were mocking me and silently laughing wherever they were. This left me unsettled and irked me knowing I'd been close. I knew I had, otherwise they never would've let Kylie go. I was onto them and I would've been able to pick the scents up if they didn't leave her behind.
Children's scents are strong and so pure it's hard to miss, even with masking potions.
But that was now a problem for another day. I crushed the note in had and left. Turns out Anton had been running the pack since the day after I left. Roman took off from the Castle a few hours after I'd gone and was tracing me since.
So to say that the pack was excited upon Roman's arrival would be an understatement. They were ecstatic, especially to see Kylie. They didn't know how we got get back or who took her, but it wasn't something they had to be bothered with.
So here I laid in my bed finally getting some rest. The pack partied for hours after Roman's return, and still are now. Saying things like the Alpha needed a welcoming after his return, but I think they just needed an excuse to get drunk off their asses.
Pushing everything aside it felt amazing to be in my bed if it weren't for the weird scents lingering in my room.
I knew how Roman's pack smelt, they all had a specific scent apart from other wolves because they were the Royal Pack.
This scent was stale, it smelt like rogue mixed with something earthy... almost-.
Salty.
Salt. Sea salt. There had been a siren hybrid in my room.
I was surrounded by complete darkness as I opened my eyes from my peaceful rest. I felt that same feeling, like I was being watched and I wanted nothing more than to bolt and turn the light on.
That's exactly what I did. I forced myself out of my fatigue and threw the blankets off then ran for the door when something shot out of the bed grabbing my ankle, yanking me back. I fell to the ground with a thud hurting my already bruised ribs.
There were spots now mixing with the darkness of my room. I hadn't fed in days, I was weary and weak. Now being freaked out beyond words, being defenseless in the pitch black room, I did the only thing I could do.
A scream ripped it's way through my throat after I hit the ground. It felt like slow motion, the music from downstairs paused, there was pounding at the end of the hall and I knew it was Roman as I threw whoever was on me off.
And then I ran like hell to the light switch and looked behind me as Roman threw open the door.
"Syra?" Roman asks with surprise as he walks into the room.
