~~~~~With Jack~~~~~~
She was tired and a little bit depressed, but she needed to find this guy and get back to whatever stupid housing situation she was in for, so she could get on this stupid case with the stupid detective and get home, and never speak about it.
"How does he even expect me to find him in all of this?"
"Well did you do all the weirdness that he told you to do in the text?" Brenda weighed in. Somehow, between receiving Brenda's first text message and receiving the last one from this detective, she'd answered her phone to Brenda. Jacqueline scoffed.
"Afraid not. No one's about to do that."
"Well, text him again."
"Maybe I did. Maybe he didn't answer." Jacqueline surrendered her bag to the ground and sighed.
"Maybe he didn't get it. You don't know!" Brenda remained enthusiastic.
"Yeah, well apparently he doesn't either." Jacqueline rested her hands on her head, awkwardly trying to balance her phone between her ear and shoulder.
"Snark."
"Buzkill."
"You know, I think that's my line." Brenda joked. Jacqueline could tell she was writing a big letter to some sponsoring company for her next new project. She didn't know whom to, or what about, but she heard Brenda tapping away pretty violently on her desktop keyboard. The clickity-clack of her noisy, old keyboard is a sound that actually comforted both sisters, as they had always been slightly old fashioned. Out of every writing medium they owned, they preferred that.
"So who's getting it this time?"
"My boss..." Brenda said sadly. Jacqueline stood a little more tense.
"Why? What happened? Are you okay?"
"Yeeeaaaah....." Brenda trailed off, temporarily discontinuing her clickity-clack message on her end of the line.
"Tell me." Jacqueline arched an eyebrow. This was a sure fire sign that there was something Brenda was holding back from her. Usually something that could've been avoided.
"I was late..." Brenda led on. She spoke slowly.
"Uh-huh..."
"A couple of hours late... To the Buddha x Indigo meeting..." Brenda ran her words together.
"YOU WERE LATE TO YOUR OWN KICKSTARTER MEETING?" Jacqueline nearly screamed. As strangers walked by, staring, she covered her mouth and excused herself as best as she could. "I will end you."
"I just ended me!" Brenda sounded genuinely devastated. She'd been working towards that project for almost a month now. Jacqueline inhaled deeply.
"How did this happen?"
"I just... I way over slept. And I mean, I tried to-" Jacqueline's phone beeped loudly over her sister's explanation.
"Okay, wait. Sorry, Bren. I just got a text. It's probably from that stupid detective guy."
"Alright."
"You just keep doing what you're doing. Okay? I'll get back to you. I promise."
"Okay. I will. I am."
"I love you."
"I love you too, Jack." With that, they both hesitantly dropped the line to continue their necessary toils. Jacqueline looked at her phone.
'Look around. If you see a tall white male with brownish curly hair wearing a dark trench coat, next to a man in a cream coloured jumper, tap the side of your nose. As discretely as you would like, just noticeable enough so that we can see.
