I was currently at Greece, sitting on the couch of my Grandfather's apartment. I was twiddling my thumbs under a glare and surrounded by my greek family chatter. Everything would be fine if I hadn't lied to my friend.
She was so close to attacking me. Let's go back a few weeks.
I was determining if I should tell my mom if I was homosexual or not. She was greek orthodox so I was afraid of her reactions. I gathered up my courage and walked into the kitchen where she was talking to someone on the phone. I could instantly tell that it was my grandfather.
"Um, mama," I asked hesitatingly. She said a few more words and greek then turned her attention towards me. "Yes baby," she asked and I shuffled my feet. "I..I am a, um, a lesbian," I said quietly but she apparently heard me still. "What?! My but is lesbian! I was hoping you would find a nice bit and have babies and-" she took a deep breath. I suddenly heard a yelp or scream form the other side of the phone and my mom went back to talking frantically in greek. 'Shit shit shit shit, this was a bad idea! Bad idea!'
My mom suddenly started looking amused and started giggling. I was now terrified. "Papou said he wanted to meet your girlfriend," she said and had a smirk present. 'A BLOODY GIRLFRIEND?! WHAT THE HELL! I DON'T HAVE ONE!' But all I said was,"okay," then walked back to my room.
I asked my friend a few days later if she wanted to go to Greece. It was all paid for by my mom and I and she agreed. She just didn't know it was as my girlfriend.
Now back to the present, my grandmother and grandfather asked my friend how long we've have been dating (with the help of my aunt and mom). She instantly realized what happened and answered three months. She text me a second later profanities and tthreats. I was about to die from guilt.
I pulled her into our room and quickly whispered her the explanation. She was even more passed but grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the couch. 'At least my family is supportive.'
My aunt then offered to take my friend and I to get ice cream and waffles. I instantly became jumpy and happy since these waffle ice cream things were one of my favorite things to get in Greece. My friend was just a bit glad that she got ice cream and stopped glaring at me. The rest of my family stayed at the apartment, getting ready to take my grandfather's dog, Lana.
"So, are you two actually dating, Audrey" my aunt asked my friend in an amused tone. "No, she lied to me to get out of shut," my friend growled and I sunk in my seat. "Watch your nothing Audrey," she joked, since she didn't really care if we swore but my mom was against it. My friend just smiled. "So, Alex, you actually have feelings for Audrey to like like that," my aunt asked, once again, another question. My face grew hot and I started stuttering. "T-thea! No, of course I don't!" They both laughed and I grimaced.
"Whatever, now we are almost here," They said and I sighed in relief.
Hey guys, this is the rare authors note but I'm currently on a plane going to Germany so I can catch another flight to Greece. My mom is greek so we are visiting her family and I love it!
I'm also a bit scared of a dude in front of me because he asked me to stop bumping the seat yet it was my brother. I get easily scared and I'm also sure he's German >.> I think Germans scare me a little bit
I got the idea to write this because of three things, 1) I'm going to Greece so why not?
2) the movie "My Fat Greek Wedding" of the crazy family
3) a Nyo! Spamano book that I read a little while agoSo yeah! Have an amazing rest of summer vacation guys!
