Who's M?

"I'm home," I yell, throwing my bag onto the couch.
" Hey Amber," Grace calls  from the kitchen , " There's a friend waiting for you upstairs,"

"Huh, I have no friends though," I reply, picking up an apple from the table.
The truth, Hazel had all of them.
"Well, there's someone waiting for you," she looks behind to see me, her dark hair barely missing my face, and wipes her hands on a cloth, " That boy that always used to hang out with Hazel, I'm always forgetting his name"

She waves her arm about attempting to remember his name,
" Something like Canon, no that's no it - oh I don't know,"

" Calum" I interject nodding my head , and taking off my shoes as I make my way toward the stairs.

I catch a quick glimpse of my self in the mirror ; my hair is frizzy galore today, tried straightening it this morning but that didn't work. My mum was black and my dad is white, therefore I'm mixed race, there's no problem with that but I can never seem to take my hair. Which is frustrating.

"OH YES", she waves her hand dramatically, " That's the one,"

I roll my eyes and continue up the stairs.
----------------------------------------------
He's here - sprawled over my bed, reading a magazine titled 'Kimye vs Swift, who will win in this vicious battle'.
His dark brown hair has been tainted with sections of blonde, suits him I guess, but I'm still not used to it.
"Calum" I say, in attempt to make him aware of my presence.
"Oh," he said , getting up and quickly putting the magazine away.
I raised my eyebrows as he proceeded to pretend he'd never been reading the magazine at all.
"Why are you here? " I said as I settled down unto my bed.

"To check up on you,"
I snorted.

" No, why are you really here?" , I said arranging the new photos I just printed for my portfolio. I'd finished sixth form this year, and was taking a gap year, needless to say, the events that had taken place recently confirmed that I needed time away.
Just to be with me.
But in preparation for art school I've been creating a portfolio, it's got lots of photography and all types of art styles and techniques I've experimented with.
Hazel was my main muse.
She features heavily in it, I've been creating it since I was 14, 4 years, it's getting pretty old.

" I have a lead,"
I snap my head into his direction,
"What?"
" I think I have, you see there was this note underneath the letter, but I didn't notice it until today, take a look,"

He's holding out a worn piece of paper that  seems to have been ripped from a diary or something.
HAM 4 life
23 Norwood drive,
SE14 NRY
9:00 entry
10/5/16
"This is an address," I whispered.
" I figured that much out, so I typed it into google maps and it came up with this," he passed me a printed picture of a house.
" Large house, very modern, obviously owned by someone wealthy- wait what does that say, "
I pointed at faint engravings in the wall of the house.
Calum squinted his dark eyes, "No use, can't see things like that without my glasses" he replied sheepishly, trying to fumble though his bag looking for them.
"No it's not your eyes, I can't see it either,"
I jumped up and grabbed my laptop , typing the address into the search bar. The same picture came up in the search engine, I zoomed in to read the engraving:
The Busskins
"Oh no," I groaned.
"What," Calum said , still staring at the name.
" HAM stands for, Hazel, Amber and Melissa," I explained
"Who's Melissa? " He asked, looking up from the screen and at me.
" Melissa as in Melissa Busskins, she was a friend of ours in primary school, I didn't know Hazel still spoke to her -something must be happening at her house on the 10th of May," I theorised.
" And Hazel wants us to go, maybe we'll find the next clue there,"
I nodded, " But what's happening?"
"Let's see," he replied, getting out his phone,
"What are you doing?"
"Melissa Busskins, Twitter profile, public, posted on 5th May ' Party at mine on Thursday, finally 18🎉🎉, everyone's invited x' , ah the classic mistake"
My eyes widened.
"You are a genius,"
"I don't like to brag, but -" he started.
"We need to strategise how we're going to do or find out what ever Hazel wants us to," I said.
"Well, " Calum pointed out, " She did -
"Hey kids," My dad said, I snapped my head into his direction.
"Ever heard of knocking? " I replied, rolling my eyes.
" Good evening Mr Stone,"
"Evening Calum," he replied, he looked around the room and at us.
"You should keep your door open when you have guests, wouldn't want a thing we didn't plan to happen happening would we, eh," He was eyeing the two of us suspiciously.
And suddenly I realised what he thought was going on.
" Ew, no dad, nothing - "
"I'm not asking," he said putting his hand out to stop me, "I'm just advising,"
He left the room, making sure to leave the door wide open.
The moment he was out of sight I pushed it shut.
"Sorry about that," I said motioning toward the door and the direction my dad had just gone in.
"No, it's fine," Calum chuckled.
" Anyways, as you were saying,"
" Yeah, it's obvious that - "
There was a knock at the door.
"Ugh" I cried frustrated.
"Who is it?"
"Rosie" a small voice whimpered.
Rosie is my 4 year old half sister, she's the child my stepmother birthed. She's kind of cute I guess.
"What do you want?"
"Errm.. Daddy said I can come and pway with you and your friend" she knocked again.
"Can I come on?"
"Of course you can," Calum replied, giving me weird look.
"YAYYY, " she said as she ran into the room and straight into Calum's lap.
"Aww, what game do you wanna play?" He said, playing with her hands.
"Hide and seek," she screamed, clapping her hands in excitement. "We play it in reception, it soo fun -"
"Great idea -" I interjected, standing up, picking her from Calum's lap and carrying her toward the door, " How about, you hide, and we'll come find you?"
She squinted her eyes," Will you really find me, because last time -"
"Don't be silly," I scolded, with a large smile plastered on my face,"Of course I'll come and find you"
"Pinky promise," she said, not taking an chances.
We linked our pinkies together as we said ," Pinky promise, I promise today that I'll never ever send a promise away," We did our weird hand shake thingy and she waddled away.

The moment she turned round the hallway I shut the door and locked it.

"I am so sorry for my -"
"Its fine," he laughed, "really, besides your sisters really cute, she gets it from you,"
I pulled my laptop screen up and opened Twitter on my laptop -
Wait. Did he just.

I looked over at Calum who was writing something down in our Hazel diary ( the notebook where we wrote about all our discoveries)
He wouldn't be flirting with me. Especially not at a time like this or in a situation like this.

"What were you saying before?" I said looking at him.
"Well, I was just going to suggest that we start by talking to Melissa at the party," he suggested shrugging.

"That seems reasonable, she's probably the only person we'll have to talk to, but I don't know how we're going to find the next clue," I fell back into my bed, tired.

" Well, so far we've gotten notes, so I think she might follow that trend , maybe have left something with her to give to us? "
"She wouldn't have made it that obvious, she'd be more sly about it, you know, do it in a way you wouldn't expect,"
He shrugged," I don't know, but I'm sure we'll figure out when we get there,"
" Then when we get whatever she's left for us we'll have to meet again - I don't think meeting at mine is going to work, can we meet at yours? "
" Well," he began, scratching the back of his head uncomfortably, " My parents have kind of being arguing, you know the divorce, you know how it is - "
"That's totally fine, I'll just think of somewhere else for us to meet," I replied hastily, I had no idea his parents had divorced, we'd been childhood friends but hadn't spoken for a while.
So much had changed.
I knew it was a touchy subject for most people, so I didn't want to pry, but I couldn't help being nosy.

Calum gasped and grabbed my arm,
"You have got to stop doing that," I said pulling get my arm out of his grasp.

"I've just thought of the best place for us to meet," He got up and started to leave the room, he turned back," Aren't you coming?"
I rolled my eyes and ran after him, suddenly a black figure jumped out of one of the corners,
" Found you ! " I shouted, the same time she said "You promised! "

"And I kept that promise... It's just your hiding place was.. soo good I couldn't find you. Wow. Your such a pro at this game." I breathed in fake awe of her.

She giggled, " I learnt from the best, "

" Aww," I said kneeling to her height, " Thank you, "

She looked at me confused then laughed," Nooo, not you silly, Hazel, " I heard a snigger in the background and showed Calum a very warm gesture in appreciation, she smiled at him and skipped past us, back into her room.

" Your sisters a savage," he said shaking his head.
I glared at him and sent him the gesture once more as we left the house, I went to open my car but then he said.
"No need for that, " taking the keys out of my hands, and putting them into my back pocket, " Our destination is in walking distance,"

What do you think guys? Calum flirting oohhh, thanks for the small amount of people who read this I really appreciate it, PLEASE point out grammatical errors to me or things that don't see to fit. Thanksssss xxxxx
