Chapter Five

I woke up to Harry and Hagrid talking.

"You heard Uncle Vernon last night... he won't pay for us to go and learn magic..." Harry said. They must be talking about supplies for Hogwarts.

"Dont worry about that," Hagrid said and grabbed a newspaper and began to read it. "D'yeh think yer parents didn't leave yeh two anything?"

"Wait, I understand why they left money for Harry, but why me? Im not their child..." I ask him, confused.

"Well Lily must've known how yer parents would react to yeh going. And ye two spent so much time together that yeh just as well've could've been twins!" Hagrid said.

"Aw Hare Bear!" I say and hug my cousin, causing him and Hagrid to laugh.

"Don't ever call me that again," Harry said but then turned to Hagrid. "Didn't you say their house was destroyed?"

"Well they didn't leave their money in their house, boy! Nah, the first stop fer us is Gringotts, the wizard bank."

"Wizards have banks?" Harry asked.

"Well duh! Where else would they put their money? A piggy bank?" I say sarcastically.

Ignoring me, Hagrid said to Harry, "Just the one. Run by goblins."

"Goblins??" Me and Harry ask simultaneously. "Jinx!" I say, making Harry roll his eyes.

"Yeah. Yeh'll be mad ter try and rob it. Never mess with goblins, kids. Gringotts is the safest place fer anything yeh want ter keep safe. Well except for Hogwarts. As 'matter o' fact, I got ter go ter Gringotts fer Dumbledore." Hagrid states proudly. "Knows he can trust me, has me do important things. Fetchin' you, gettin' things from Gringotts."

I smile at Hagrid's happiness and follow him and Harry outside. All that was out there was the boat that Dad- er Vernon used to get us here.

"How did you get here?" Harry asked, looking around.

"Flew." Hagrid said as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

"Flew??" I ask. "You've got to be mad!"

"Yeah but we'll go back in this. I'm not supposed to do magic now that I've got yeh. But itd be a shame ter row... yeh wouldn't mind if I sped it up a bit, would yeh?" Hagrid asked, stepping in the boat.

"Course not!" Harry said, clearly eager.

"Hagrid? Why would you be mad to rob Gringotts?" I ask

"Spells, enchantments, even Dragons! And Gringotts is so big yeh'd need ter get out before you die of starvation." Hagrid said and started to read his newspaper. "Ministry of Magic, messing things up again!" Hagrid said randomly.

"There's a Ministry of Magic?" Harry asked

"Course. They wanted Dumbledore for Minister but he'd never leave Hogwarts so Cornelius Fudge got the job. Asks Dumbledore what to do every morning though!"

"What does the Ministry do?" I ask

"Well their main job is to keep muggles from magic up and down the country" Hagrid answered

"Why?"

For the rest of the boat ride Hagrid answered most of our questions about the Wizarding World. Soon enough we got to the train station and rode for about five minutes.

"Still got yer letters?" Hagrid asked and we pulled out our Hogwarts letters. On the second page was a list of supplies including the uniform, books, equipment, and we could even bring a pet!

"Can we get all this in London?" I wondered

"If yeh know where to look." Hagrid said simply.

Ive never been to London and im assuming Harry hasnt either. Hagrid seemed to know where he was going but I don't think he knew much about Muggles. He parted the crowd easily with his size. I had to jog to keep up! Suddenly Hagrid stopped.

"Here we are! The Leaky Cauldron!" Hagrid said excitedly.

The Leaky Cauldron was more of a worn out, small pub. People walking by didn't seem to notice it. Whether that was because it was small or because of magic, I didn't know. Me and Harry followed as Hagrid went inside quickly.

As soon as we walked in, the talking stopped. Awkwardly, I wave. People wave back but mainly to Hagrid. I guess they knew him.

"The usual Hagrid?" The bartender asks, barely glancing at me and Harry.

"Cant Tom, Im on Hogwarts business." Hagrid says, referring to us.

The bartender finally gets a good look at us. "Good Lord... is this? Can this be?" He says almost nervously.

At this moment, the whole pub quiets. "Harry Potter? And Madison Dursley? Its an honor!" Tom the bartender hurries toward us, shaking our hands. "Welcome back! Welcome back!"

All of a sudden chairs are scraping against the floor as people rush to meet us. Many shake our hands, crying. Others full on embrace us in hugs. A few even kiss my hand. Wow we sure are popular....

I decide to really embrace my newfound popularity. I stand on the counter and bow to the people in the pub. "Thank you so very much for all of your compliments and hugs! But I do have to say, me and Harry are just like you! We arent special! You don't need to do all this! Enjoy your day!" I say and step down. I then follow Hagrid out as I hear murmurs from the pub.

"She's so sweet!"

"And humble too!"

"She'll make a great witch!"

I smile and walk on. We stopped by a brick wall.

"Three up... Two across..." Hagrid muttered and tapped the wall three times with his umbrella.

The brick he tapped wiggled amd disappeared! The hole grew wider until we stood in an archway.

"Welcome to Diagon Alley."

Diagon Alley was amazing! So many different shops! Some sold cauldrons, some sold brooms, heck! Some even sold ice cream!

Hagrid smiled at our amazement. "First we need ter go ter Gringotts fer yer money!"

"Actually Hagrid, while you and Harry get the money, can I go look in the pet shop? I love animals!" I ask hopefully.

"I s'pose that wouldnt hurt. Just stay in their and we'll come ter get yeh!" Hagrid said while smiling.

"Thank you thank you thank youuuu!!!" I say and rush off, leaving a laughing Harry and Hagrid behind.

The pet shop was huge!! There were so many different animals there! There were rats and owls and cats and toads and lizards and snakes! They were all so cute! I was particularly interested in the owls. They were so pretty! As I wondering around I bumped into someone.

"Oh my goodness Im so sorry!!!!" I say and look at the person. I see a ginger boy who looked my age.

"It's fine," He says, "I'm just here because my brother is getting an owl while Im stuck with his old rat!" He says pulling out an ugly rodent.

"Im just looking around. Hagrid and my cousin are getting money from Gringotts so I thought I'd look at the animals." I say.

From somewhere in the store I hear a lady yell "Ronald its time to go!"

The boy, who im guessing is Ron, turned back to me. "Sorry I got to go. See you at Hogwarts!"

"See you!" I say and smile. I made a friend!

Not too long later, Harry and Hagrid come in, looking extremely pale.

"Well we better get yer uniforms first. Do yeh mind if I go fer a pick-me-up in the Leaky Cauldron? I hate those Gringotts carts..." Hagrid said to us.

"No it's fine. We can handle ourselves." I say and Harry nods as Hagrid walks off.
