"I'm gonna do it," Oliver announced assuredly, breaking the calm silence that the couple had been in all Sunday afternoon. Will could hear the cogs in Oliver's head turn all day but didn't want to push, just laying in the soft sunlight that had been streaming through the bedroom window as he waited for his boyfriend to tell him what was on his mind. Things had been so hectic lately that they both needed a laid-back day, to unwind and regenerate.
"What're you gonna do, babe?" Will asked with a small laugh at Oliver's non-sequitur.
"I'm gonna properly come out and tell people that we're dating. As in, like, come out to everybody?" Oliver explained, his certainty of this evident in his tone.
"Really now?" the other questioned. It's not like he didn't believe his boyfriend, but they'd had this conversation many times before, fought over conversations like this before, so he felt like his skepticism was well-placed. If Oliver was actually ready and prepared for this, great! But Will wasn't going to set his hope up for it. History always seems to repeat.
"Of course," the blonde nodded. Will nodded back, feeling content with just that for now. Actions speak louder than words, after all.
The fell back into a comfortable silence after that, quietly snuggling into one another as they soaked up as much sun as they could while lying in bed. Will had his eyes closed, enjoying the moment as Oliver played with his fingers and stared at the side of his face.
"What do you want to ask me?" Will asked after a couple minutes, sensing the pending question on his boyfriend's mind that he was nervous to ask.
"I was just thinking that I was coming out soon," Oliver started off, biting his bottom lip as his eyes roamed the other boy's face. "You're gonna be part of my coming out story," he continued on as the pensive look returned to his eyes.
"And so..." Will edged on, knowing that there was more to what Oliver was going to say.
"But I don't know dick about shit about how you came out," the blonde explained so eloquently. "Besides like, what happened afterwards, with you know, like..." he began before awkwardly tapering off, knowing how much of a sore issue it was for Will. "I mean, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to," he finished off weakly, beginning to regret bringing this up.
"Nah nah, it's fine, Ol, I should tell you," Will reassured. It had been around a year since his ex-boyfriend has left him and he felt more and more over it as time went on. Having this conversation at the start of the year would've killed him, but he felt like he could handle it now.
Will sat up, up against the headboard behind him. He felt like this was going to take a while and lying down didn't feel comfortable for that. The blonde sat up too, moving up against the other, and laced their fingers together in an attempt for support.
"So, I met Henry the first day of high school. We sat next together during the maths placement test and I lent him a pen for it since he said he'd forgot to bring one. Nothing major, and I completely forgot to get it off him afterwards. I didn't really mind to be honest, it was one of those cheap, 50 cent BIC ones, y'know, so it wasn't a big loss or anything, but he came looking for me at lunch to give it back. He told me later when we started dating that he'd liked me the moment he saw me and was looking for any reason to talk to me. He didn't even need the pen, he had a whole box of the same ones in his bag," Will began, deciding that telling the story from the start would best, although now he'd started, he wasn't sure if his emotions would actually be able to handle it all.
But he powered on, saying, "Anyways, we really didn't know many other people here yet so we had lunch together. It was great. We shared our lunches with one another, mainly 'cause I wanted to try the amazing looking cold rolls that he had, and he didn't seem to mind the half of the crummy cheese sandwich that I'd lamely offered him as a trade, even gave me another roll without taking anything else back in return. He was just so... yeah.
