Fewer and fewer pairs of dirt-filled shoes crept by. It felt like an eternity laying under the semi truck. When there were no more slackers, Daryl and I emerged from the truck. We stalked around the 18-wheeler, being silent in case there were more dead heads. We passed two rows of wrecked cars before I saw it. 2 walkers lagged behind, just reaching the RV. Black drool seeped from their mouths. They staggered inch-by-inch, limping along the road. The blue blanket squirmed from the rear of the jeep. Jonathan's snow-white hair became visible, peaking over the edge of the car. He let out a hushed screech, loud enough for the two biters nearby to hear, but not loud enough for the hoard that had just passed to hear. The 2 walkers advanced toward him as he hopped out of the vehicle. He edged back towards the side of the road. Jonathan ran to the woods adjacent of the cars, the biters following behind him. I stood by a car, transfixed by the scene unfolding. My conscience seemed to have floated outside my immobile body. I just stood there soaking in the fast-paced display. I shook myself back to reality after Jonathan's figure drifted into the woods. I remained upright, dumbfounded as I gazed at Rick sprinting towards the trees after Jonathan. I raced 20 feet behind Rick, trying to catch up. I turned around to the sound of another pair of footsteps, Daryl's. We continued down the trail, my knife situated between my curled fingers. After minutes of chasing, Daryl and I caught up to the 2 walkers, sending a knife between their heads. Rick and Jonathan had retreated back to us after circling 'round a pond. Jonathan stumbled over to me. I dropped down wrapping him in a tight squeeze. Tears fell down my cheeks as I held onto Jonathan, tears of joy. We collected our bearing and headed back to the group.
Before hopping over the fence, I grabbed Rick's shoulder. "Rick, I can't thank you enough," I hugged him as I let out the rest of my sentence. He drew back and nodded with a smile, "No problem." When we staggered back to the RV, Carol frantically ran towards us. "Where's Sophia? Where is she?" Confused facial expressions were thrown around the group. "What are you talking about Carol?" "She followed you guys. She wanted to help look. I told her she couldn't, but she took off before I could do anything. Did you see her?" "I'm sorry Carol, we didn't even know she was behind us." "You have to go back, you have to look for her." Rick stood firmly, wiping his forehead with his hands. "We'll look for an hour, if we don't find anything we'll try again tomorrow morning." Carol let out a whimper and shook her head. Dale re-situated himself on top of the RV. Shane, Rick, T-dog, Daryl and I ventured off into the woods. Daryl, Shane and I were split into one group and Rick and T-dog into another. We were told to meet back at the highway when the sun hit the horizon.
