Hey guys! Thanks so much for reading! Just letting you know there's a flashback so you get a little taste of Ciara's past life :) When paragraphs are italicized it's a flashback by the way(: comment what you think! xoxo

After speaking with Hershel and the group at the breakfast table, I gathered my crossbow and katana and walked around the farmhouse. South of the beautiful house was my area of search. My katana was sheathed and dangling besides my waist, fastened into my belt loop. My crossbow was in my arms, ready. Fewer and fewer arrows remained. Daryl started carving some out of wood for the two of us.

Wooden spear traps enclosed the farm, protecting the temporary safe haven. Few walkers were trapped in the spears. Hardly any walkers came around anymore. I neared the edge of the massive trees jutting into the sky. These part of the woods somehow reminded me of my past life.

"Ciara follow me!" I picked up my pace to a jog. My breath easily visible in the harsh winter. My eyes drifted to the back of Gabe's head. His long, curly blonde hair swished side-to-side as he jumped over stray logs. We've been in the woods for five minutes now. He slowed his pace and turned around, a smile formulating across his chiseled face. He pointed his hand to the creek bed. The water was so clear, it seemed to not even be there. It ran off into smaller streams. It was breathtaking.

Gabe wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me in close. My head rested on his chest. I drew my head back and planted a kiss on his cheek. We continued down a trail, Gabe leading me behind him with his hand pulling me along. The marshy ground below us transitioned to huge rocks emerging through the water. We were halfway across the creek, hopping from rock to rock. He sat down on the largest rock, the only one not covered in water. It rose about 4 feet from the water. I sat next to him and leaned my head on his shoulder. We stayed on that rock for hours, just talking and soaking in each other's warmth.

I rose to my feet, pulling Gabe up with me. We maneuvered to the other side of the creek and before he landed on the grass, I pushed him into the ice cold water. His face revealed anger, shock and surprise. "I got you," He flirtatiously called after me. He sprinted out of the water and wrapped his arms around my hips from behind me. "No! Don't you dare!" I screamed. My heart started racing as he carried me to the water. He ran into the creek, knee deep in water with me still in his arms. I looked back at him and he was smiling like crazy. We were both in the freezing water without a care in the world. "Dangit Gabe, I'm freezing now," I said. "Join the club," He retorted with a devilish grin. We busted out laughing and hurried out of the water. We sprinted to the warmth of his truck and headed to his place. I stared out the window, realizing how much I cared for Gabe...

I shook my head at the thought of Gabe. I hadn't talked to him in years.

I continued down a trail adjacent the creek. "Sophia, Sophia you out here?" I yelled. No response. I continued through the woods marking an 'X' through trees to remember where I've been. The trees started to thin out and a gas station came into view. An old 7 eleven sign towered over the rusted building. It appeared to be vacant and as if it hasn't been used in years. The sun radiated down on me, causing sweat to stick to my face. I readied my crossbow in my hands. An arrow was ready to be fired. I neared the door, peering through the darkened window. I jerked the handle but nothing. I rounded the back and opened the back door. A horrid odor rushed out of the building, filling my nose. My eyes began to water as I backed away coughing. I entered the gas station and pulled out a flashlight and placed it in my crossbow. I glanced left then right, but nothing. The isles were empty of the dead but still contained supplies. All the food was expired but there were more flashlights and some feminine products. I stuffed everything I figured we could need into my backpack. A floorboard creaked and I turned around instantly. Nothing. I inched towards the checkout, but there was nobody. A muffled shuffling came from the door behind the counter. I jumped over and grabbed the doorknob. I threw the door forwards and stepped back. I pulled the trigger and lodged an arrow through a walker's eye. It wasn't going anywhere anyways, because it was leaned against the wall, just laying down. Already given up. "Sophia," I hopelessly called out. No answer. I grabbed the keys from the dead man's hip and opened the front door. The sky was already turning a blood-orange. Only two more hours of searching. A car sat in front of the gas station. I sat in the doorway contemplating my decision. I ran back inside and retrieved another set of keys belonging to a Ford Fusion from the man's pockets and unlocked the car. That was easy.

The landscape was filled with nothing but tree's to my right. I haven't seen one person. Not even a walker. I ransacked more empty houses, taking some food and other leisurely items. I grabbed some books for Carol. Every time I saw her she had a book in her hands. Before turning around to head back, I caught a glimpse of an elementary school. Maybe Sophia ran in there and hid in a classroom. I highly doubt it though, because it would be a long walk for one girl without food and water, unless she found some on the way. I parked the car in the parking lot and trotted to the entrance. It was boarded shut. Someone had to be or have been here. Circling the school, I found an open window along the side of the building. I hurled myself up and grabbed a hold of the ledge. I hopped up and landed on the teacher's desk. I looked around to see smiling faces greeting me.

Around 8 people were lounging on bean bags and couches. There were 2 kids reading comic books. One woman was knitting what appeared to be a sweater. "Uhm hi... My name's Ciara... By any chance have you seen a little girl, wearing a blue shirt and about ye high?" Every person shook their head with a concerned expression. "Alright, thanks though," I called out as I hopped back out the window. That seemed like a pretty nice set up. Maybe if they were gone and we ever needed a place to stay we could go there. The sky was already turning black, so I decided to head back.

I got to the bumpy road leading to the farm. Confused faces were glaring at the Ford Fusion as I pulled up, most likely because I didn't take a car out. I hopped out of the vehicle and everyone nodded, relieved it wasn't an unknown person. "Hey! Where'd you get that at?" Rick questioned. "Found it while out looking. Owner of a gas station turned and keys were still in his pocket, figured we could take another free ride. Any luck?" I asked. Rick shook his head with disappointment. Everyone was back at this point.

There was a bonfire lit outside and everyone was gathered around it. Many heartwarming stories were told. Beth sang old songs she remembered at the end of the gathering. Before calling it a night Hershel had an announcement. "You know what, it's getting cold out, you guys should probably move inside. There's enough room for everybody, however, some of you might have to share a bed." Everyone looked around, hooting and hollering at the news. The whole day enriched everyone's broken spirit. We sprinted to the barn and retrieved our belongings. When I reached the house everyone had already called a room. Jonathan reached out and grabbed my hand before speaking, "Sarah, where are we gonna sleep?" I looked down at him with a faint smile. "Hold on kiddo, we'll find somewhere." We explored the rest of the house to find one vacant bed we'd have to share. However, Merle and Daryl shared that room also. They both had separate beds. "Speak of the devil. Looks like we got Ms. Texas in here," Merle snickered. I just rolled my eyes and set my stuff down beside the bed. "Jonathan, go with Carl and get ready for bed, be back in 10. Got it kiddo?" I asked with a smile. He replied with a grin, "Alright Sarah." It still cracks me up he can't say Ciara. I sprawled out on the bed, eyes glued to the ceiling. I took in the room and turned to see Merle and Daryl staring at me. "What are y'all looking at?" They just shook their heads with a laugh. I wonder what they were talking about before I got in here. "You guys are weird," I said under my breath, but loud enough for them to hear.

Jonathan came back in and laid down next to me. He wrapped his fingers in my hair before falling asleep. Ever since Jonathan was born he'd always play with people's hair. Whenever I'd go to Ashley's house he'd fall asleep in his mom's arms while playing with her hair. The thought of Ashley made my mood sink. I really did miss her. She was my best friend. Family. And now she's gone. I met her when I was kindergarten and she was in pre-k. Our moms knew each other and we used to go to each other's houses all the time. I shook the memory out of my head and drifted to sleep, ready for the day ahead. All of tomorrow was devoted to finding Sophia. I was going to be alone again, which I didn't mind. I didn't want anyone getting in my way.
