Chapter 28

Stacey and Ben

Stacey let out an ear piercing scream and covered her eyes, Travis wrapped her up in his arms so she didn't have to see the scene in front of them.

She began to sob and risked a peak over Travis's arm and when she saw Jake and Ben both lying there she screamed again and pulled away from Travis and stumbled over to Bens body.

She dropped to her knees forgetting how much pain she was in and took hold of Bens hand.

He was so battered and bruised but he still looked so peaceful, she kissed his hand and closed her eyes.

If this was the last time she was going to see him then they were going to have to pry her away from his cold body.

The tears streamed down her face and she felt Someone pulling at her shoulder.

"No I'm not leaving him, he's all I've got!" she choked out.

She lay her head on his shoulder and lay on the floor next to him, feeling close to him for the last time.

She placed their entwined hand over his heart and rested it there.

THUD THUD, THUD THUD

She lifted her head to look at him and couldn't believe he was staring back at her, she thought she was imagining things when she felt his heartbeat but here he was looking straight into her eyes.

"Ben?" she whispered hardly getting it out at all.

"In the flesh baby!"he joked earning a chuckle from Steve and Travis.

Stacey allowed a small smile to play on her lips.

"I thought you were gone, i thought you were dead!"

"No baby a little beat up but not dead, I'm sorry you had to see all that."

Stacey looked up around the room, the place was really trashed and then her eyes landed on Jake .

He had the knife in his hand in a loose grip and a beat up face just as Ben had and a bullet hole right in between his eyes.

Stacey felt sick at all the blood and the goriness of it but was relieved it was him not Ben. Relieved that he was dead, relieved he couldn't hurt her any more all this shit was finally over and she could get on with the rest of her life with Ben.

Her eyes continued to wonder around the room and landed on Carter who was now slouched down on the floor looking a little worse for wear himself.

He was holding his side where Jake had stabbed him.

When his eyes met Stacey's a small smile played on his lips and Stacey returned it.

"I made a promise Stace, i told you i wouldn't let him hurt you while I was around again, didn't I?"

Stacey just nodded. she couldn't beleive it Carter had killed his boss and best friend for her, she had no words to say.

What could she say?

Ben started moving getting himself up off the floor helping Stacey up as he went.

"Right then, what now daddy dearest looks like we got a mess to clean up." Ben asked nodding his head towards Jakes body.

Steve and Travis looked at each other and nodded.

"Well first let's get you three seen to shall we, he can rot for a while." Steve answered.

"But what will happen to Carter?" Stacey asked.

"Don't worry about it nothing but a bit of self defence after jake stabbed him, its his boss and best friend has been for years what other reason would he have to kill him and besides there is four witnesses, and one of those is an officer of the law." Travis replied.
