Deep Musings and Nachos

At least, we had finally found the good smell after walking through the warehouse a few times. It was coming from a snack bar at the back where there was a fast-food counter with a grill, a drinks cooler, a pretzel heater, and a nacho cheese dispenser. Everything you could want, plus a few steel picnic tables out front. We were very hungry and tired - we hadn't eaten since that morning, maybe the previous morning as we weren't sure what time it was. Early morning maybe?

"I'm going to find some food." I declared and went and rooted around behind the counter. There was already some food deep frying. I found a freezer and inside was frozen cheeseburgers, fries and milkshakes galore. I put the burgers on the grill, chucked the fries into the deep fryer and put the milkshakes by the grill to defrost. There were some plastic trays heaped on the side, and upon closer inspection, they were clean.

Soon, they were heaped with double cheeseburgers, vanilla shakes, and XXL servings of French fries. I dumped them on the table and we dug in. I was about halfway through when I remembered to breathe.

"So, do you know where we need to go next?" Asked Grover. We had finished the food and lay there contently, tucking into some cheesy nachos that I had made later. We had also rampaged the cash register and taken about five hundred dollars and twenty gold drachmas. At that moment, we felt rich.

Percy took the map out with greasy fingers and pointed to a place in Tennessee. A little caption had appeared there and it said: 'The Parthenon, Nashville."

"Yay, home of my least favourite music!" Said Grover.

"So, how are we going to get there?" I asked.

Annabeth replied,"when you were making food, I thought I saw a truck out back. It's not a Porsche, but . . ."

"It'll do," I said. "What sort of truck is it?"

"A dodge by the looks of it. Not great for being flashy, but the last thing we want is to draw attention to ourselves in the mortal world. Four teenagers driving a Ferrari might just turn some heads." Annabeth was always so logical.

"Great," Said Percy. "We might just want to fill up the tank though. There's the petrol station next door, it might still have some left."

"Do you want to sleep here? We could find a motel or something . . ." I said.

"Do you think I could sleep here with all the statues staring at me?" Asked Grover.

"They are a little creepy, the sooner we get out of here the better."

We walked through to the back of the store, past more cement statues, until we finally found the dodge. It wasn't in amazing condition, but they were usually pretty reliable.

Grover climbed into the driver's seat and stared at us expectantly, "Well, what are you waiting for? Get in."

The interior was surprisingly clean for what on the outside looked to be an ancient vehicle. The seats were leather, and a little dusty, although otherwise clean.

"Shotgun!" Annabeth yelled, while Percy and I rolled our eyes. We climbed in and Grover revved the engine up.

"It's got a full tank!" He exclaimed in surprise.

"Maybe Medusa didn't get out much?" I said. "I can't really imagine her going on a date . . ."

Annabeth glared at me."Don't speak ill of the dead."

"She's a monster, she'll just re-form in a few years. Anyway, Grover, are we going to go anywhere?" The engine was ready, but we wern't moving.

"Yes ma'm!" He said with a little too much enthusiasm. We all cracked up.
