Chapter 20- A Storm of Emotions
"Nice one.Well done Miss Walton.I see you have defensive skills as well," this remark was far from what I was expecting.....Was that supposed to be sarcastic? Or did I just hurt his ego? My inner conscious hid somewhere, pushing me forward to this unwanted and awkward situation. What was I supposed to say after such a daring action and an even more challenging reply?
I looked at him blankly. He had one of those ghost smiles but his eyes told me that he wasn't very impressed by my words that he could admit. His jaws were clenched and his expression gave room to more suspicious thoughts in my mind.
Suddenly, I felt a cold hand on my lap beneath the table. I glanced at Stephan. It was a mute conversation, reminding me that I had to reply. He looked at me as if he was pleading me not to worsen the situation.I knew what this was for him and I promised not to let him down.
" I'm sorry Mr Stone...I didn't mean to," I was more hesitant than ever.I sounded like a silly lamb in front of a lion.I normally hate conceding but this time it was for Stephan that I was doing this.
"Oh Miss Walton. One doesn't get use to my cold behaviors in one day! Besides, we can discuss these things later on. We have a deal to seal here." He definitely wasn't going to let this go off his back so soon. But I'm glad he chose to discuss this later because right now my priority was Stephan and his deal....Everything else could wait even if I started it against my own will.

Stephan and Hayden were discussing over the terms and agreements to avoid further delay in starting the project. They were mostly talking business and looking at me at least once before coming to any conclusion. I was nodding in agreement absentmindedly since my mind was roaming somewhere else. That 'small' dispute was haunting my thoughts.
"So I guess that's it then," Stephan said it loud enough to get me back on earth. I blinked thrice a second before I found two pairs of eyes staring at me.
"Are you okay,Amara?" Stephan asked softly.
"Yeah,I was just thinking of something," I blurted out.
Hayden raised his brow at me, curious as hell to know what's going on in my mind. His lips were pressed in a thin line and not to mention how distracting they were. The tension around was so overwhelming.I cleared my throat.
"Shall we then?" he finally broke the silence.
"We what?" Did I just say that? Jeez,...I bit my tongue. Why do my words have to go unfiltered all the time? I cursed my inner conscious.
"Shall we sign the contract papers,Miss Walton," he was hiding his boyish grin. He was teasing me and the humor in his tone proved it. He knew what effect he had on me and he was taking full advantage of that."Unless you have other suggestions to make," he added, articulating every word with much emphasis.
His emerald eyes went darker in so saying as they drifted to my lips and my blushed cheeks.
"No I think Stephan took care of everything,"I lied convincingly. I sounded like those high class female entrepreneurs.
"Good," he finished and picked out his sleek black pen with his name engraved on it, from his stand. In a swift movement he signed at the bottom of the pages before handing the papers to Stephan who admired the papers for long.
I gave him a gentle pat on his hand that turned cold. He was nervous and it was crystal clear. I smiled at him confidently but he looked at me as if he was about to cry.His steel grey eyes got moisten but he restrained himself. He gave me one of his apologetic looks. What's wrong with him all of a sudden? Was it nervousness or something else? I just couldn't figure it out. There was something fishy but I just couldn't read in him.
