A heated fire starts in the pit of my belly and slowly engulfs me in a rampage of warmth. Spine-tingling shocks rack through my body. Nick's lips are soft and moist against mine. We're perfectly synchronized and he has a hand on my cheek, caressing it. The moment is more than perfect.

A squeak of surprise makes us pull apart.

Lizzie is standing in the doorway. You would expect her cheeks to be bright red to emphasis her embarrassment of walking in on us, but her pallor is perfectly normal. Instead, she's staring at Nick like he has two heads.

Why did she have to walk in now? I clear my throat and push away my annoyance. "Yes?"

Lizzie blinks repeatedly and finally manages to compose herself from her state of shock. Now she looks embarrassed. "Sorry...about that. Um, Xander would like to see you, Iris."

Xander? Who's Xander? How come she didn't mention Nick?

Nick places a hand on the small of my back and I quickly stop myself form punching him out of instinct. No one ever touched me like that before. With a gentle push, Nick lets me go.

I allow myself to follow Lizzie but I can't stop myself from looking back. Nick's eyes meet mine. The crooked grin is back and he winks at me.

I'm so busy debating whether or not Nick is bipolar that I don't even notice that Lizzie and I have reached our destination.

She opens the door without knocking and holds it for me. I glance at her warily before entering. I hug Luke's jacket tighter to me.

The Alpha from last night sits before me. A large oak desk is in front of him. He's still looking majorly sexy and I barely manage to reel in my hormones. His black hair isn't as messy as last night, but he's still making my heart beat a bit too fast.

The Alpha looks up at me. His eyes scan up and down my body and I know he's not checking me out the way I want him to. He's assessing me, to whether I'm a threat or not. And suddenly, I know why he wanted to see me.

He gestures for me to sit down. I hold my ground and say, "No, thanks. I'll stand."

He shrugs. "Suit yourself."

Lizzie closes the doors and I hear the tiny lock clicking. Damn.

"My name is Xander and I am the Alpha of the Dust Lands pack. Lizzie is my mate and the Luna of this pack. I am aware that you are Nick's mate, but I still have questions for you."

I gnaw on my lip and slowly nod for him to continue.

"Okay. What is your full name?"

"Iris Fur." I resist the urge to roll my eyes. I could've sworn I told him this last night.

"Middle name?"

"I don't have one." Yes, it's true. My mother didn't find it necessary to give me a middle name.

Xander looks thoughtful for a second but then nods. "Okay. Where did you come from?"

There are so many possible retorts to that question and I press my lips together before I get in trouble. "No where specific." I say.

He raises a brow. "Do you have a home?"

I shake my head.

"A family? Siblings?"

"No."

"What happened to them?"

I give him a mysterious smile. A girl's gotta have her secrets.
