I'M IN THE PROCESS OF RE-WRITING THE FIRST CHAPTERS SO THERE WILL BE SOME CONTINUITY ERRORS AND MISTAKES UNTIL I HAVE FINISHED. PLEASE BARE WITH ME! SORRY!
"Hello! It's nice to meet you!" Darren said, giving them his most charming smile. It could make my knees go weak and my heart beat double time so I was sure my parents would find it equally as attractive.
"Yes. It's good to finally meet you too." My dad said with a stern expression on his face. He wasn't pleased I had found my mate when I was so young- I was only 16 and but normally wolves don't find their mates until they're at least 18.
"Alex has told us so much about you! I can't wait to get to know you!" My mum exclaimed. She was much more open to the idea of me having a mate. "But before I have one question: Have you completed the mating process yet?"
"Mum!" I cried. The mating process involved the dominant wolf biting the other's neck and then having sex to become fully mated so I really didn't want to discuss that with my parents and by the looks of it, Darren didn't want to either. His face had gone bright red and he was awkwardly rubbing his neck, avoiding eye contact with everyone in the room.
"Ummm...well.." He began.
"It's okay, Darren. You don't have to answer that." I said. Truthfully, we hadn't. We had met a month before and we had decided that tonight was the night we were going to go through with it. I didn't really want to share that information with my parents though.
"You're right, Alex. I'm sorry. I'm just curious! Anyway, why don't Alex and I go prepare dinner. Alan, show Darren around the house please!" my mother said, trying to clear the awkwardness.
Darren did not look pleased about spending time alone with my dad even though I've reassured him many times that my parents will love him. He was very attractive, talented, kind and funny and I thought he was positively amazing. Even if they don't like him (which they will!), wolves mate for life so they'll have to put up with him for the rest of mine. As long as my dad didn't follow my mum's example and start asking embarrassing questions, he'll be fine, provided my sister stays away.
My sister, Kayla, had a habit of hitting on every attractive guy she meets- The fact that Darren is my mate would not stop her from trying to seduce him. I trust Darren to stay faithful but Kayla is beautiful and has a lot of practice of stealing people's boyfriends so I would rather keep the contact between them minimal.
I followed my mum into the kitchen to help her get dinner ready and Darren went with my dad, giving me one last nervous glance.
By the time we had all sat down to eat I could tell Darren had won over my dad. They were joking and laughing about some football thing as if they were best friends and the thought made me smile. My parents could see how amazing he was, we were going to mate and everything was going well. I felt my smile falter as Kayla strutted into the room. She was wearing a low v-neck cropped tank top with tight mini shorts on. I don't think she could possibly show any more skin without stripping down to her underwear.
"You must be Darren! I'm Kayla, Alex's sister. It's wonderful to meet you." She purred, giving him her best smile.
"Hi." He said. "Alex never mentioned she had a sister." He gave me a questioning look. I just shook my head at him and forced a smile at my sister.
"Oh! Well I'm sure she just forgot!" I didn't forget. I was just hoping they wouldn't meet so I didn't bring her up. No one really knew what to say so there was an uncomfortable silence for a while.
"Kayla, will you be joining us for dinner?" My dad asked. My sister nodded and pulled up a chair between me and Darren.
The rest of dinner was the opposite of fun. It basically consisted of my parents trying to make polite conversation with Darren and Kayla draping herself all over him. He looked like a deer caught in headlights. As soon as it was over, I grabbed Darren's hand and pulled him upstairs to get him away from Kayla. I trusted him to stay faithful but I wanted to minimize the contact he had with my sister as much as possible. She would stop at nothing to get what she wants and it seems what she wanted is my mate.
