*One Year Later*

It's been a year since Austin and I had a descent conversation. Since that day, that we agreed to be friends. Carter has started first grade, and Mel is ready for pre-school. Did I mention that we moved to Texas? Probably not. Well...we did. Austin still has visitation rights with the kids. We agreed on them flying out to him every summer. Although, I'm not too keen on the idea of having them away from me for that long. What can you do? Nothing. Let me tell you a little bit of what's happened. You see, after all of this that happened, I still love Austin. He was my first real love and I'll never deny that. However, what he did was just unacceptable.

Robert and I are together now. We've been in a relationship for the past six months and it's been great. He treats me like a princess. Austin and him are still friends, but they aren't as close as they were. But, Robert is trying to make their friendship better. But, there's nothing we can really do about the awkwardness between us three. Austin and I are clearly not "bestfriends" anymore. Nor will we ever be again. I can't trust him enough to be that close with him again. All of our other friendships remain the same though. If not better then they were. Jackie lives down the street from me. I moved in with Robert last month. He finished college and is now into business. It brings in descent money for the household.

In the aftermath, after all of this shit that I went through. I'd say overall it's turned out for the best. Everything happens for a reason. Sure, I've been broken. I've been hit. I've been bruised. I've been pregnant. Played. Used. Self-harmed. But, I survived. I stayed strong. It's a struggle everyday, but I'm still doing it. It feels amazing to know that I'm still here, and that I've learned from my own mistakes.

"Hey baby, I'm home." I heard Rob's voice throughout the house followed by the light slam of the front door.

"I'm in the kitchen." I shouted back.

I heard the shuffling of feet and then I felt arms around my waist.

"How was your day?" He asked.

"Good, yours?" I asked.

"Eh, it's work." He chuckled.

I giggled.

He twirled me around to face him and leaned in slowly. He kissed me passionately. When he pulled away I bit my lip.

"I love you." He smiled.

"I love you too." I said and I meant it.

I guess I was just too blind to see how much of a jerk Austin really was to me. Sure, he was sweet to me when we were an item, but he cheated on me, used me, hit me, and hurt me. Overall I think I've made a wise choice in leaving him.

Young love can blind you.

It sure didn't help me any. Being with Austin was fun while it lasted. I guess I'll just leave that at that. After Robert went upstairs I walked outside into the backyard. The wind hit my face and my hair went in every direction but the one I wanted it to. I looked up at the clouds, and I couldn't help but notice what a nice day it is. I smiled at the thought.

My phone began ringing, completely ruining my peaceful moment. I clicked the accept button not bothering to look at who it was.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Hey." Austin spoke.

"What's up?" I asked.

"Nothing, I was just thinking." He said.

"About?" I asked.

"You." He said.

Oh dear lord.

"Oh?" I asked.

"Yeah." He sighed.

Uh-oh.

"What about me?" I asked cautiously.

"I miss you. I miss...us." He admitted.

Fuck.

"Oh." I managed to say.

"So, is it just me, or do you miss me too?" He asked.

"Sure, I do. You were my best friend." I said.

"Mary, you know what I mean." He got serious.

Damn it.

"Okay..." I was beginning to regret answering the phone.

"Mary..." He trailed off.

Don't say it. Don't say it...

"I know this is stupid but, will you give me another chance? I really love you." He asked.

Well shit.
