Cole jumped into his crappy used and rusted Jeep Nukizer after lacrosse tryouts when Stiles ran toward him. “Cole wait up!” Stiles shouted.

“What’s up?” Cole asked stepping back out of the truck.

“Can I get a ride home? I didn’t drive to school today the guy who drove me left early,” Stiles asked.

“Sure hop in. I have to go pick up my sister from school first,” Cole said hopping back into his truck.

“Wow, your sister’s in school? Man we haven’t seen each other for too long,” Stiles said jumping into the car.

“Yeah I know; how’s your dad doing?” Cole asked.

“He’s good what about your parents?” Stiles asked. It was as if that question literally inflicted pain onto him because he kind of jumped when he asked.

“Okay I guess,” Cole said seriously.

“You okay?” Stiles asked caught a little off guard. Cole just nodded his head in response and pulled the car into the parking lot of his sister’s school.

“Cole I know we haven’t seen each other for a few years but you can still talk to me,” Stiles said looking at him.

“Yeah don’t worry,” Cole replied and waited in the playground with the other kid’s parents. He felt Stiles staring him down. Cole looked back at Stiles and breathed heavily. “Stiles I-”

“Cole!” yelled his sister’s excited voice cutting him off.

“Hey kiddo,” Cole exclaimed as a little blonde girl jumped into his arms. “Do you remember Stiles?”

“Hey Lily,” Stiles smiled.

“What happened to your short hair Stiles?”  Lily asked.

“I grew it longer do you like it?” Stiles laughed and Cole laughed with him. Lily nodded her head as Cole set her down. She ran to Stiles and gave him a big hug.  “How’ve you been cutie?” Stiles asked as he crouched down in front of her.

“Good,” She laughed as Stiles tickled her. “I miss my Toronto house.”

“What was that house like?” Stiles asked as the three of them walked back to the truck.

“It was big and daddy was there,” She replied and Cole’s eyes widened. Stiles looked up at Cole with sad eyes.

“That sounds really nice,” Stiles replied still looking at Cole helping Lily into the car. Cole sat in the driver’s seat and Stiles sat in the front. They drove in silence until they got to Stiles’ house. “Cole, can I talk to you for a second?” Stiles asked. Cole nodded and stepped out of the car.

“Listen Stiles I was going to tell you but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it,” Cole’s eyes started to water.

“Cole I know what you are going through if you need to talk you can always talk to me,” Stiles said putting a hand on Cole’s shoulder.

“No, you don’t understand. I’ve been hiding something from you for the entire time I’ve known you,” Cole said looking down at his ratty old Jordan’s he stole out of someone’s trash last year.

“What?” Stiles asked.

“My dad abused me. He made my mom turn to drugs and drinking. Lily thought he was superman, she never saw what he did to me and I made sure she didn’t. He forced us to move to Toronto and when he left my mom we moved back here. He’s not dead but I wish he was I’ve always wished he was. I practically have to take care of Lily by myself because our mom is completely messed up! We live in a crappy trailer park and I’m going out of my mind looking for a job just so I can support my family. I’m only seventeen and I’m worried about all this crap. I thought it would be better than having to worry about coming home to a man who hates me and beats the crap out of you just for the fun of it. Stiles I’ve never told anyone this ever before and you can’t tell anyone especially your dad,” Cole spoke really fast and tried not to cry. Stiles looked at him with wide eyes and just hugged him really tight.

“Come over for dinner tomorrow night and bring your family. I’ll see if my dad can get you a job at the sheriff’s department,” Stiles said as he let go of him. “Get your sister home I’ll call you tonight.” Stiles began to walk into his house.

“Wait,” Cole said stopping Stiles from walking into his house. “Thank you, it means a lot.” Stiles smiled and walked into his house and Cole got back into his truck and smiled at his adorable sister. She smiled back with her big brown eyes and bright blonde hair.
