She was a change - a change that tore me apart.

The early birds are already seated on the benches, eating away their lunch with great zeal. An appetizing blend of aroma floats about the canteen, but it is the strong smell of hot soup that pulls a large crowd to queue in front of its stall. The others discouraged by the long queue head to other stalls after casting wishful and hungry glances at the huge steaming pot of hot and freshly prepared soup. I had Chloe's company and she seemed to be quite an interesting and easy going girl. She was herself a newbie and joined this school last year.
She'd heard that it was the best school in California, so she wrote an application essay about how she wanted to go to a school which was elegant in its own way.
Her parents got divorced when she was five and now she lived with her so called "rich" dad and his fiance, as her mother abandoned them for a family doctor with whom she fell in love with. From then on her father took every little care of his sweetheart. They soon moved to California where her father got his job as a lawyer at a reputed law firm and now they are well off.
According to her- "My mom is some kind of a self sufficient bitch!"
Chloe might've suffered a lot. I cannot think of living without my mom even though she's bossy but look at Chloe! Huh, this is life - Sometimes you win....sometimes you learn!
She liked the "Jeffys" as she called it, but - 'you need to be ready to face the challenges, as that's the main rationale of this school' she said with a smirk.
Challenges-Wait, what?!
Our arms swayed, simultaneously, back and forth as we were laughing at our own stupidity. We strolled around the auditorium as I listened with great attention to Chloe who kept on mentioning all the rules and regulations of the school.
'Don't try to mess with our math teacher, Mr. Kennedy. He's too damn strict! One mistake and you'll be done!' she warned me with that deadly look in her eyes!
'Are you trying to scare me?' I stated with a funny look.
'No, I'm serious. Sarah, don't take everything lightly. You might end up being in trouble!' she scoffed.
'Oh, sorry!'
'Hey Chloe, how's everything going?!' a girl appeared before us. Her silky hair were fit neatly into a stunning chignon. She had beautiful round deep blue eyes which looked at you innocently. Dimples were placed under her high cheekbones. She somewhat resembled Chloe as both of them had the same pixie-like nose and cream coloured skin with raven black hair. She was wearing a cute polka dotted frock with a pair of moccasins. She was short yet cute.
'That's none of your business!' Chloe flipped her hair. She was enraged. Her normally calm and pleasant demeanor changed and her face contorted in an all-consuming anger.
'Aha, look who's talking....yesterday I saw you at Ashton's place. May I know, what were you doing over there?' her voice showed hatred, she spoke completely in a different tone, casting a devilish smile.
Now, who's this Ashton?
Chloe turned pale. She was about to burst but instead she calmly went up to that girl and said, 'Firstly I went to Ashton's place for collecting the information on our history project and secondly you don't need to worry if I'm with him. I hope that answers your fucking question.'
'Stop it Chloe, stop lying. I always knew that you had something for Ashton and you'd try to snatch him away from me. You're too cruel....just like your mother!' She flipped around angrily and made her way towards the door.
Chloe and I stood still, dumbfounded. I knew how mortified she was, I mean seriously how would you feel if someone blamed your mother and termed her "cruel". Chloe stood there staring at her feet. Everyone in the auditorium was staring at us. Some whispering, while others gave us pitiful looks. I turned towards Chloe and was horrified to see her crying! I took her out of the whole scene.. towards the washroom.
'Chloe its okay..stop crying now! Who was she?' I queried.
Chloe was completely red. She started sobbing. The sobs were stifled at first as she attempted to hide her pain and then she broke down entirely. She was angry, mortified, indignant all at the same time. She was embarrassed in front of the whole school and I felt sorry for her.
'Clara Augusta' she whispered still sobbing, 'my half sister.'
Okay....what?!
