My heart thumped in my chest as i heard muffeled voices close to the box I was hiding in. Slowly I lifted the lid open so I could hear the voices clearly but only a little bit so I wasn't noticed.
"I'm only here for the girl", the intruder said cautiously, glancing at the bat in Kyle's hands, while he slowly lifted the knife in clear view.
"I've already called the police so they'll be here soon", Kyle stated as he took an almost unnoticibal step backwards.
"I'm not leaving without the girl", his voice was harsher now, and he stood to his full height that towered over both Alexander and Kyle.
'What does he want with me?' , was the only thing running through my head, as I shook with silent tears. My cheeks where warm and soaked with tears, even though I felt cold chills running up and down my spine as the voices became part of some unreal nightmare.
"Tell me where she is", the man ordered.
"What do you want with her?", Kyle questioned obviously trying to stall.
"Tell me where she is! I don't have time to kill all of you!", He said clearly irritated. Kyle opened his mouth to speak but was stopped by the sound of sirens.
"I'll keep coming back until one of us is dead and I will kill anyone in my way. Now tell me where she is!", He snapped. Kyle stayed silent and kept his face solemn. Red and blue lights flashed through the curtains, the intruder shuffled backward and spun around to face the back door.
"I'll be back", he promised as he glanced over his shoulder one last time before disappearing out the back door and into the darkness of night.

I shivered as I sat on the front steps of our house with a cup of hot chocolate wrapped in my hands, Kyle was talking to a police officer while he took notes. My mind was running over everything that had just happened, what I couldn't understand was why he wanted to kill me, of all people.
"You cold?", Alexander asked as he wrapped a thick blanket around my shoulders disrupting my thoughts.
"Yeah, thanks", I mumbled as he sat down next to me.
"Can you believe what just happened? And what did you do to get someone to want to kill you?", He asked almost like he was reading my thoughts.
"I don't know", I mumbled in reply.
'This is all to overwhelming for me, what did I do to deserve this?', I thought to myself as a single tear rolled down my cheek.
"There's no evidence of breaking an entry, or that anyone was even here", a cop announced as he appeared in the doorway on the verandah.
"He got in through the open window in my room", I piped up.
"Where is your room?", he asked, obviously not convinced anyone was ever in the house.
"Up the stairs and the first door to the left", I said still shivering from the thought of the intruder. He walked back into the house as two of the three police cars dispersed. Kyle walked over to us as the officer that he was talking to sat back in the car and pulled out a laptop.
"He said that our information was useless unless they found evidence that someone was here, since we didn't get a look at his face", Kyle sighed as he took a seat beside me opposite Alexander. Kyle put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into a hug as more tears poured from my tired eyes.
"It's going to be okay", Kyle whispered into my hair. The cop that was inspecting the house came back into veiw with a tired expression on his face.
"There was no evidence of a ladder or your open window. everything seems to be normal, call us if he shows up again", said the cop as pushed past us on the steps. He got into the last patrol car and drove off. Kyle, Alexander and myself sat in silence for a short while until it was broken by Alexander's comforting voice.
"We have to do something", he said quickly glancing at me and then to my brother.
"What? He said he's just going to keep coing back until she's dead!", Kyle replied, venom in his voice.
"We run away", Alexander announced seemingly proud.
"We can't", Kyle replied with an exhausted exprssion.
"And why not?", he questioned.
"What about our parents we can't just leave them... And where are we going to go anyway?"
"They will understand if we leave them a note saying what happened, and for where we're going to go, think of it as an adventure", Alexander answered.
"It's a good idea", I finally joined in.
"Okay. As long as it keeps you safe", Kyle agreed.
"Lets go get sorted", Alexander said as he stood up. He held his hand out for me to take it, I placed my hand in his as he pulled me to my feet. We all walked inside and Kyle and I went to our rooms to pack some clothes into our backpacks. I raced up stairs and into my room, I pulled my purple backpack out from under my desk and onto my bed. after I had filled my bag with the nesscesities I went back down stairs and into the kitchen to grab some water and food. I walked back to the lounge room where I accidentally walked in on Alexander getting changed.
"Oh god, I'm sorry", I said as i turned around and attempted to go back to the kitchen.
"It's alright", Alexander stopped me, he wrapped his arms around my waist and turned me around. He was now wearing a pair of black skinny jeans that were ripped at the knees, he was also shirtless which was kind of destracting as his masculine torso was shadowded by the light of the moon, shining through the windows.
"Are you okay?", He asked referring to what had happened earlier this night as he pulled me into a surprisingly warm hug.
"Yeah", I mumbled into his chest.
"Keep your hands off my sister", Kyle joked as he entered the room trying to lighten the mood. Alexander pulled away and walked over to his bag that he had brought for the weekend and pulled on a shirt.
"We'll stop by your place so you can pack", Kyle said to Alexander.
"Are you ready Natasha?", Kyle asked me with a concerned look on his face.
"Yep", I replied.

We all walked out to Kyle's Ute and put our bags in the back. It was a short drive to Alexander's house but he took forever to pack, once he came back out to the car he slid into the seat next to me.
"So. Where to", Kyle sighed as he looked into the rear-veiw mirror toward us.
"How about, road trip? We could go anywhere and everywhere", Alexander asked feigning excitment.
"Sounds good", Kyle replied, pulling out of the driveway and on to the gravel road.
We had been driving for a couple of hours and the sun was coming up we finally drove past a sign that was farewelling us from Californa. The sun felt like it was melting my tired self as I leaned on the car door and drifted off to sleep.
