I sat there.
A husky, restless sigh escaped my mouth, my back arched and my head buried in the comfort of my alarmingly cushioned arms. Damning this school that robbed me from my sleep. I was desperate for our English teacher, Mrs Ezaria, to make her way through that hardwood door and finally make a start to our class. To add to my annoyance, I was here without the company of my two best friends, Yanina and Holly, who were having Media class together. I gazed around the dull set up of a classroom, my foot tapping away incessantly as I listened to the muffled chatter of my classmates. Praying oh God when will something exciting happen!
In an attempt to make myself appear occupied, I pulled out the textbook that our class was currently analysing, 'A Street Car Named Desire' and began reading. Ah, the beauty in one text, as I was moments away from flicking to the next page, I heard the steel legs of a chair being dragged across the carpet floor...
Screeeeetch! Clunk!
I jerked back, baffled. I felt an outburst of unsettling tingles run up my back and hit my neck. "Gah!" I screeched silently. I peeked over the top of my book and gingerly moved my head to the side, revealing the culprit of this ruckus; a skinny, brown-haired boy. His brown eyes looking into mine. He'd been watching me this entire time...
"Dammit Luke! Why do you have to be so hostile if you just wanted to sit next to me? Gosh!" I shrieked, relieved yet annoyed that it was Luke responsible for giving me a fright.
He laughed teasingly. "Don't worry Bella, I too forgot to replace my tampon this morning," Luke mocked.
I gave him a deathly stare.
"That's just how I am, stomper. Anyway, Jai and I were wondering if you wanted to be part of our group for next week's skit?" he asked, sitting with the back rest of the chair in between his legs.
"Why me?" I asked bluntly, my attention now back to my book.
I heard him sigh a little; spreading a smirk across my face. Ah yes, I did indeed answer Luke's question with a question, I suppose I find enjoyment whenever I give Luke a hard time.
Let's see how persistent he is.
He composed himself and started to speak, "well, one of the requirements of this task is that all groups must have at least one girl as we'll be reenacting an intimate scene. And you are a girl, are you not?"
His smart-ass remark made me giggle under my breath. "Hm, I don't know. Maybe I need to double check, mind doing the honors?"
As soon as those words fled from my mouth I realised just how lame it sounded. Hey, points for trying to make an impressive comeback!
I saw Luke shift in his seat uncomfortably. Did he not know I was joking? Or maybe he doesn't like the thought of checking if I am indeed, a girl.
"Not at all," Luke replied with a smirk. I raised my eyebrow at Luke; both of us snickering at the raunchiness of this topic.
"You dirty children," scoffed a boy who'd been paying much attention to our conversation.
Luke and I turned our attention to the boy behind us.
"Oh, hi Jai! Nice of you to join us," I greeted.
Rocking backwards on his chair, arms resting on his head, sat a careless Jai.
"It's quite endearing isn't it?" Jai mocked. He forcefully kicked his foot off of his desk and began to swing on his chair. He continued, "anyway, why don't you just join our group? It's not like you have anyone else to go with, do you?" Jai asked, rather bluntly. Now Jai and Luke were both staring at me, quite seriously too, what was the point in arguing anyway?
