Draco went back into the room were Hermione was, his tears having almost completely dried. Hermione and Ron didn't need to ask for an explanation- it was very clear from Draco's current state and the fact that they had heard everything through the door.
"Well, even he does die, you'll have a replacement." Ron said, attempting to be lighthearted at the situation.
It was an abysmal situation that Draco was in. His husband was dying, and the only potions that they could offer him might not even work. His best friend was delivering his and his dying husband's baby. And to top it all off, he would need to be split in half to cater for the needs of the people around the hospital, his critically ill husband and his about-to-be-born baby.
Draco sighed and sat down. It had been a long day, too long, and the fatigue was catching up to him. He close his eyes and let the darkness take over.
When he woke, it was around five o'clock in the morning, and Ron, who had probably not got very much sleep, informed Draco that Hermione was 8 centimetres dilated now.
"So, not long to go then." He sighed, "I should go see Harry, see how he's doing."
Ron smiled and sat back down next to Hermione, who was trying to typically trying to read.
Draco heaved himself up off the chair and meandered his way to Harry's room. He arrived, where Harry was awake. But he was not alone. Healer Areus was standing by his bedside, talking to him.
Harry noticed that Draco entered and the healer promptly left.
They sat and talked for a while, Harry eager to know everything about Hermione.
"She's about 8 centimetres dilated, so it shouldn't be that long now. We will be parents."
Harry smiled weakly.
"And what a great parent you will be honey." Harry said, holding Draco's hand.
"And what a wonderful parent you will be darling." Draco said, smiling up at his husband.
Harry sighed, and they sat there talking once more.
Suddenly, Ron burst into the room, his face red with exhaustion.
"Draco, come quick! Hermione's going to the delivery room!" He panted, waiting for Draco's reply.
Draco looked excited, but turned back to Harry.
"Harry, I've got to go. I love you." Draco said, kissing Harry on the lips.
"I love you too Draco, our baby is coming." Harry said, grinning ear to ear.
Draco smiled and raced out of the room after Ron.
They arrived at the delivery room, where Hermione was panting, and a healer was repeating the same words.
"Push. Push. Not far to go now. Push. Push."
Draco stood by Hermione's head, for what felt like eternity. And then. And then.
The baby's cries filled the room.
"It's a girl. Would you like to cut the umbilical cord?" The healer said and gestured to Draco.
He raised his wand and cut the cord with one smooth motion.
He was passed his little bundle of joy, and held her in his arms. Draco rocked the newborn in his arms, cooing to her softly.
"Hello. Hello, baby. I suppose we have our name, little one. Lyra Lily Malfoy-Potter. My little baby. You'll met your Papa soon.
"You've got my hair though, white blonde like the sun. But you've got his eyes, green like emeralds. He's my Mr Green Eyes. And you are my Miss Green Eyes."
He rocked her back and forth, before passing Lyra to Hermione.
"Um...We were meant to ask you sooner, but will you be godparents to this little one?"
At this point, it all got a bit too much, for not Hermione, but Ron. He burst into tears, uttering a thank you through his shaky breaths.
Hermione did the same, but she had just about managed to hold back her tears. They passed around Lyra like a parcel, before a healer came into the room.
"Mr Malfoy-Potter, your husband has just had another seizure. You might want to come, but it seems you are a little busy."
He was still hold Lyra, and looked into her bright eyes.
"We are in for a hell of a ride, my Miss Green Eyes."
