Don't Let Me Go

After I woke up Sebastian walked me back to my apartment so that I could pick up the mail and drove us to the hospital. To my surprise, when we arrived, the paparazzi were already waiting... "Odette, is she going to die?" One asked, Sebastian quickly shot a deadly glare in his direction. He kissed the top of my head and rubbed my shoulder with his 'it's gonna be okay' look. "Hi, who are you looking for?" a woman at the front desk asked. "Odette Zdzislawa," I answered. "She is in N305, the doctors will want to speak to you. Just a heads up." I nodded and held Sebs' hand a little tighter. 

Her face was bruised almost to the point of unrecognition. "Hey-" You whimpered letting go of Sebastian's hand and embracing your sister's boyfriend. "Is she gonna be okay? I came as soon as I heard..." he said in a barely audible tone. All I could do was shrug my shoulders, the pain in his eyes was unbearable. He buried his face in his hands and looked back at the wires coming out of his girlfriend. The doctor came in with a grim look on his face. "You are her-" "sister," "and them-" "they're family..." "So the good news is that her vitals are stabilized and the internal bleeding has stopped," he settled. We all let out a relieved gasp. "And the bad news?" Henry asked, "We do not yet know the extent of the damage that this accident has provoked or, when... if she will wake up. We will put her in a medically induced coma. How long she stays in it will be up to her and you." 

The room was suffocating, the silence deafening. My body felt as if a corset had been tight laced to my ribcage. "Are you okay, miss?" the doctor question. "I-" I panted for air, "I can't breathe..." Sebastian turned me around, "Lina. Lina, look at me. Take in a deep breath for 10 seconds-" I nodded, "hold it, hold it-. Let it go for 10, 9, 8, 7..." he finished. "I'm okay thank you. Thank you," I grabbed Sebs' hand once more. "Gentlemen, I think we should leave Miss.Zdzislawa with her sister for a moment."

"Odette I don't know if you can hear me but... I miss- god- You are my only family, you are the only reason why I'm where I am today. You were the one who sent out my application for colleges I never thought I'd be able to go to. When Victoria's Secret scouted us for the job, you're the one who actually took it seriously. You were- you still are, a mother and a father and a sister and a friend. And I love you." tears started streaming down my face, "you- uh, you always said I was the smart one. So a couple weeks ago I enrolled you in your dream university and this morning I got an answer. I thought we could read it together" I smiled wiping away my tears and tore open the extravagant envelope ,

Thank you for your enrollment in the 2018 Global History Cursus. We have the greatest pl- we have the greatest pleasure to announce your acceptance to Oxford! We are looking forward to scheduling a meeting wi-"

"You got in! Odette you got in!" I hugged her immobile body. "Wake up Odette, Please wake up! You have to wake up or else I'm never letting you borrow my things again and I'm going to steal your cashmere dress and- just please wake up..." I could hear the desperation in my own voice. I took her hand in my mine and wished that she would just move or twitch or just DO SOMETHING.

Sebastian came back later in the evening with Henry and a movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's, as well as breakfast for dinner. We ate and watched the movie, I told them that they should go home and I would stay but they said that they would just go to their apartment and get a fresh set of clothes. 

Moon river started playing and the credits rolled. I started cleaning up and had to leave the room to throw trash out. As I headed back I heard that the heart monitor was going crazy. "DOCTOR! WE NEED A DOCTOR," I cried out, "SOMEONE HELP!" our main doctor came running alongside some nurses. "ODETTE!" I cried, "We're gonna need 3CC's of any sleep aid you've got, STAT!"
