I smile at my friend, he was dragging me through a crowd of kids around the age of 13. Danny was at least trying to be my friend. Lil stops us and looks at me sadly. "Tessie we're sorry fer leaving ye behind." She says looking down. I chuckle.
"You did not mean to..." I say looking at a skinny boy in a corner sobbing. His hair was a raven black, but I couldn't see his face. I sigh and let go of Danny's warm hand. I slip through the crowd of celebrating teens, and to the frail teen. When I reach him I rest a hand on his shoulder. He lifts his head quickly. His hazel green eyes lock with my emerald green ones. He looked like Blake, and it made me a little happy.
"Hey are you okay?" I ask him, he looks scared.
"Y-yeah I'm g-good." He stutters. I smile.
"What's your name?" I question he smiles timidly.
"My name is Max Gail Anderson." He replies. "What's yours?"
"Tessa Greywood Jackson." I say softly. It just now occurred to me that the men who took me used my middle name along with my brother. "But you may call me Tess, Tessie or Tessa." I say helping him out a little.
"Alright Tessa, just call me Max. I'm twelve. You?" He's too young to be in prison.
"Fifteen." I answer. He nods why was he so skinny and scared.
"Max. Why were you crying?" I ask a question once more.
"They killed my sister, Kate, she was protecting me. They whipped her until she died in front of me... I still hear her screams." He says digging his slender fingers through his hair. I sigh in understanding.
"They shot my brother in the head. I watched them do it." I say giving him a hug. He untangles his hands from his hair and hugs back. When he pulls away he looks at something behind me.
"You're the kid who led me out!" He yells I turn to see Danny. He has a smirk on his face. I smile as I see my friend. I don't know why I call him that when he can be rude.
"Of course, and Tessa was the mastermind behind it all mate." Danny chuckles. My smile turns to a frown. Max looks at me in awe like how my brother would when I passed an exam in school.
"Really!? Wow you're as smart as my sister! But how does the magic work?" He is so hyper. I smile he's only 12, and he seems so enthusiastic.
"Well it sometimes includes chants but most of the time I can imagine something and it happens." I say with a shrug. Max nods, and Danny lightly pulls on my shirt sleeve. I look at him calmly.
"It's like 11:00 a.m. please make us all lunch mate." I sigh knowing that there are at least a thousand mouths to feed.
"Fine but you might regret it." I say. Danny yells to the huge crowd to move out of the way. They all move into lines that go as far as around the upper balcony and down the stairs twice. I imagine food enough for all of the kids to have seconds. Chicken, turkey, mashed potatoes, ect. Hey at least it was on plates, and all of the kids went through one by one like we did in prison. I feel as though I was hit by a semi, this causes me to fall to my knees. Danny grabs me by my upper arms, I am to weak to protest or stand on my own.
"I don't regret the decision, I regret not asking you something." He says groaning softly as he picks me up like a bride.
"And what might that something be?" I ask softly as we walk through the line and into a big torn hotel room. He sets me on a bed and looks down.
"I admit I've been ignorant and selfish, but despite that. I've gotten to know you a little--" I cut him off.
"Cut to the chase idiot." I say sarcastically.
