"Come on please, please...pretty please with a cherry on the top...." Sally begged me while clasping her hands together in mock prayer.
"Ahhhh! Alright! Give it up already. I'll do it, but you own me big time for this!" I exclaimed, interrupting my very annoying friend, and flatmate, before she burst a blood vessel.
I knew her well enough by now, to know that she wouldn't stop until I gave into her demands and the sucker that I was, I did, every time. This time she wanted me to fill in for her at her weekend waitress job, as she couldn't make it and her boss had threatened her that if she asked for any more time off he'd fire her.
"Really?!" she squealed, jumping up and down before throwing her arms around my neck, hugging me tightly "I love you forever!!"
"Gah! You're choking me! Let. Gooo!!!" I struggled to get out of her vice grip.
"Oh please. Stop being so dramatic! You just don't like hugs." She huffed, flicking her blonde curly hair over her shoulders with a superior air about her.
"Excuse me? I do so, just not your ones. They kill!" I coughed, rubbing my now red neck.
"This really sucks you know!" I continued, glaring at her 'overly joyful' expression. "I was really looking forward to a nice quiet weekend in. Especially after the hectic week I've had at the school with all those parent teacher meetings."
"Oh come on, Miss Teacher" she scoffed "I'm actually doing you a huge favour."
"Really?" I asked, rising an eyebrow.
"Yes! If it wasn't for me you'd be stuck here all on your own, being the hermit that you are. How do you expect to meet anyone if you never get out to talk to people?"
"What! Are you actually serious right now?! I can think of a lot of better places to meet people and I quite like being a 'hermit' as you call me. It means I don't have to deal with frustrating people like you!"
"Oh now, don't be like that. You'll thank me one of these days. Just you wait and see."
"Ha! Don't hold your breath you delusional woman. Your problem is that you read too many romance novels. Now, go and get that rag you call a uniform before I change my mind."
Sally laughed as she disappeared into her bedroom for her 'Chucky's' uniform.
I sighed, rubbing my now sore head. She was such a feather-head sometimes. Why she chose this weekend to accept her sister's request to help her move house, when she knew she was also working, I really don't know. I also have no idea why I'm, yet again, helping her out of her predicament. For once I should just toughen up and leave her to clean up her own mess.
"This is what comes from being too soft with people" I grumble to myself. "Give them an inch and they take a mile."
But for all her faults, and there were many, I still couldn't imagine life without her. She had been with me through thick and thin, always there to pick me up if I had a bad day or help me find creative new ways to approach problems. Whatever happened I knew that she would always have my back just as I would have hers, which was probably why I was helping her out now.
I sighed as Sally returned with the ugly 'pukey pink' uniform. To put it lightly, it was, in every way, revolting! Besides the colour, it was way too short in the skirt department to be called anything other than a thick belt. The top half of it was so low and tight that if you had a slightly larger than average bust size it gave the impression that your boobs were continually trying to escape the confinements of the garment. Sadly I was one of those unfortunate people.
After taking the uniform off Sally and putting it on in the bathroom, I had a look at myself in the mirror. It was everything I thought it was and more. The word hideous came to mind as I stared at myself in distaste. "This thing looks like it should be worn by prostitutes not waitresses! Whoever came up with this abomination should be shot!" I shouted out to Sally through the door.
"Stop whining and come out and let me have a look at you" Sally called back.
Gritting my teeth I opened the door and stepped out into the living room where Sally was waiting.
"Well?" She asked excitedly "what do'ya think?"
"Yuk" I sighed under my breath, looking totally disillusioned.
"What? Come on. It's not that bad." She replied, giving it the once over.
"Yeah sure" I snorted in disgust. "I might just live though the torture of wearing this thing!"
"Is it really that bad?" she said with a depressive air.
"That bad!?" I exclaimed, spreading my arms wide to give her a better view of the atrocity she made me wear, which almost caused one of my boobs to nearly pop out if I hadn't been quick enough to close my arms again and attempt to shove it back in the uniform. "Are we both seeing the same thing here?!!"
She looked a little guilty at my outburst. "Well...if you don't make any big movements they won't slip out..."
"No! You know what no!" I interrupt, stalking in the direction of the bathroom to take, the pathetic excuse of a uniform, off. "I'm not doing this!"
"No! Please! You promised!!" Sally pleaded dashing after me.
I heaved a long sigh. 'Why me?!' I implored to the heavens. As usual, there was no reply.
