A few hours later:
Things were starting to pick up and the place was getting quite crowded towards the afternoon as people had started to troop in during the busy lunch hour. I was beginning to get run off my feet with the amount of people at each of my assigned tables and what was it with them for wanting to have almost everything on the menu list? My feet were starting to really ach and I still had so many hours to do before my shift ended.
I sighed as I turned from the kitchen to bring this family their burgers and chips. 'Five more hours. Five more hours...' I chanted to myself as a way to help me going, while walking towards their table. After I made sure they were happily settled, eating their meal I had a look around only to catch sight of about six hefty looking men saunter into the café before spotting an empty table in my work corner and head towards it. They all looked like they had just come off some top model photo shoot and seeing how people's heads had started turning in their direction I knew I wasn't the only one to think this. A few of them even gave some of the women gaping at them a flirtatious wink as they walked passed them.
'Man, I hope they're not going to be these insufferable sexist jerks just because they think their good looks allow them to get away with their remarks' I groan to myself. That's just what I needed right now.
Usually I was quite a patient person, but feeling exhausted after a long week of work and lack of sleep as well as being at a place I really did not want to be at, I knew I wasn't in the best mind set to deal with irritating people without wishing to kill something, them preferably. To top it all my feet were starting to ache from all the 'none stop' walking and standing I've had to do thus far. I think one my heels was also beginning to blister 'Damn you Sally!!'
Just as I was about to head over to their table I caught Chucky giving me the head jerk in their direction. 'Good grief! What is his problem? Can't he see that I'm already heading towards them?' I think to myself as I roll my eyes at his back now facing me as he started giving out to one of the other waiters.
'Well here goes nothing' I sighed as I prepared myself before walking over to their table to hand them the menus, plastering a big fake smile on my face.
"Hello fellas. My name is Selima and I'll be your server. Here are your menus and is there anything you would like to drink while you decide what you want?" I asked with my pad at the ready.
The nearest one answered me with a smirk "We don't need the menus Gorgeous. We'll just have the usual." He had wavy dirty blonde hair that came to the nape of his neck and chocolate brown eyes that were twinkling mischievously at me like a naughty little boy.
Realising they were probably regulars and because I didn't work here I had no idea what their 'usual' was, I felt stab of irritation due to the fact that they knew this, but were enjoying making me feel uncomfortable by not telling me, from the annoying smirks on all their faces..... 'Well most of them' I thought to myself looking around the table and noticed that one of them sitting at the back was giving me a rather intense stare as if he was trying to figure me out, which was making me feel even more uncomfortable.
Figuring that they weren't going to make things easy for me I decided to pull my 'no nonsense teacher mode' on them. Squaring my shoulders I stared down at the one who had been the spokesman for the group, flashing him my signature fake smile that I kept only for the most annoying people in my life "Well since you're all regulars and I'm new here would you be kind enough to tell me what 'your usual' is?"
"Awww....and what would be the fun in that Cupcake" he drawled, leaning back and grinning widely at the sniggers around the table. "Come on Sweetness, guess."
