- Développé | a movement in which the working legs is drawn up to the knee of the supporting leg and slowly extended to an open position in the air and held there with perfect control |
-Fondu | lowering of the body made by bending the knee of the supporting leg |
-Fouetté | a turning step where the leg whips out to the side |
-Fouetté rond de jambe en tournant | Whipped circle of the leg turning. This is the popular turn in which the dancer executes a series of turns on the supporting leg while being propelled by a whipping movement of the working leg |
-Grande jete | a large forward leap in the air that looks like a flying split |
-Illusion | A needle, but the body is rotating |
-Needle | to stand on one leg while the other is raised at 180 degrees, standing split |
-Pas de bourrée | This is a progression on the points or demi-pointes by a series of small, even steps with the feet close together |
-Pas de deux | dance for two |
-Pirouette | turn on one leg with the other leg behind |
-Pirouette piquée | the dancer steps directly onto the point or demi-pointe with the raised leg sur le cou-de-pied devant or derrière, in attitude, arabesque or any given position |
-Plié | a movement in which the knees are bent while the back is held |
-Polonaise | A march in which two steps are taken forward on the demi-pointes and then the third step is taken flat with the supporting knee bent in fondu and the other leg raised in front |
-Revelé | to rise up on pointe or on demi-pointe |
-Sissonne | You jump from both feet, and land on one. The other leg is raised in a 90 degree angle |
-Switch leap | A regular split leap, but back leg is swung from a 45 degree angle to the back |
-Tour jeté | Variation of fouette, but the legs switch, also known as Jeté entrelacé |
-Tour de force | An arresting, vital step; a feat of technical skill such as a series of brilliant pirouettes or a combination of outstanding jumps and beats |
