When I started to come to, I vaguely heard Mel and Eva talking frantically about something, but I couldn't make out what they were saying. 'What's wrong?' I thought, but they didn't seem to hear me. 'Mel? ... Eva? ... Can you hear me?' I thought as I started to open my eyes. It was bright and eerily silent, and it took me a few minutes to fully open my eyes and glance around.
I was curled up on a small bench in an enormous room. It had the feel and look of an old church, but it was emptied out of almost everything. The only furniture in the room were a few small benches, barely big enough for two, scattered along the walls. The ceilings were at least 30 feet high. The floors and ceiling were a dark hard wood. The walls were stone, and all the windows were stained glass.
I could still hear Eva and Mel talking urgently, but I still couldn't understand what they were taking about. It was like they were behind a glass wall and screaming at the top of their lungs, but, no matter how loud they yelled, I couldn't hear them clearly. 'I can hear you, but I can't hear what you're saying.' I thought as I started to sit up. Sudden dizziness made me cling to the back of the bench. After a few minutes, I sat the rest of the way up and slid my feet off the bench to the floor. Glancing around, again, I noticed that there were two hallways, one at each end of the room, and I slowly stood up and started for the closest one.
Behind the first door I came to was an empty room, except for a small table. The room itself reminded me of an office. There were bookshelves built into the wall on one side of the room, and a small window on the opposite wall. There were no other doors, so I went to the window to look out.
As I looked out the window, I was shocked to see snow. 'What the hell?! ... Snow?!' I thought in surprise. 'It doesn't snow in Mexico. ... Does it?' Under different circumstances, I might have thought it was beautiful, but, at that moment, it made me anxious and worried. 'Where the Hell am I? ... I really hope someone on my side knows. ...' A sudden overwhelming feeling of being watched made me spin around and glance through the room. No one was there, and the feeling vanished almost as sudden as it came. With one more glance out the window, I started to head back out of the room and down the hall.
There were 3 more rooms. All of them were the same as the first. Empty and had no other doors.
As I wandered back toward the large open space, I thought I heard something. Listening closer, I faintly heard classical music, coming from down the other hall. Without thinking, I started moving a little faster. As I came to the hallway, the music stopped, and I thought 'There has to be someone else here.' With a quick, nervous glance behind me, I started down the hall.
Again, the first room was mostly empty. There was a small bookshelf beneath the window, and a coat stand in the corner. 'Another office.' I thought.
Making my way to the next room, it felt like I was being watched again, and I quickly glanced around. Seeing no one, I quietly called out "Is someone there?" The echo seemed to carry through the whole building. I waited for a few seconds and went to the next room. 'Empty, again.' I thought a little discouraged.
The next room was also empty, but the last room surprised me. There were curtains and a valance covering the window. It seemed 'lived' in. Like I had just missed the person that uses it. A bookshelf beside me towered over my head and was packed full of old books. Most of which I'd never heard of, and a few that were so old and used that the titles had worn away. On the other side of the bookshelf, there was a small dresser with a mirror.
I caught a glance of myself and was surprised at my appearance. I had been so caught up in figuring out where I was that I hadn't noticed what I was wearing. A long, form fitting, black dress with tank top like straps. It had a low front and almost no back. I was also wearing a choker necklace with a thin silver chain with a small emblem I didn't recognize. It sort of looked like a knot, but I couldn't tell for sure. I tried not to think about who might have cleaned and changed me by looking through the dresser. All three drawers were empty.
