Alexis POV
I watch the clouds below us as me and Hunter sit on the airplane on the plane ride to New York. The buildings seem so tiny from up here, it would be great if I could really escape the real world down there. If I could just escape this world and only be with Luke,Hunter and Arabelle.. I would. I look over at Hunter who's sound asleep and I smile lightly. Words can't describe how happy I am that he is alive, here. With me.
"Is that your son?" A lady from behind asks and I nod.
"Yes, yes he is." I turn around to b able to talk to her.
"Children are such a blessing, aren't they?" she smiles a lovely smile at me.
"They sure are." I look back to Hunter who's now starting to move around. I sit back in my seat and look out the window again.
**
Later we arrive at the airport, I order an uber and me and Hunter wait around the airport for it to arrive.
"'mommy" I feel Hunter tugging at my shirt, I look down at him and see he's picked up a bag.
"honey that bag isn't ours.. where did you get it? we need to return it." I say taking it from him. He gives me a small shrug and I sigh, I walk up to the desk where there are some workers.
"Hi, my son just accidentally grabbed ahold of this bag, I'm not sure where it came from or who's it is.. Could you please return it to the owner?" I say to the man behind the desk, while I'm talking to the lady and handing her back the bag I hear a scream, but not just any scream, it's Hunter screaming, I turn around quickly and see Hunter across the large room by a really tall Buffly built man, as he makes eye contact with me, he dashes off towards the doors, I rush over to Hunter and he runs into my legs and hugs my legs, I crouch down to him and hug him.
"What's wrong? What did that man say or do?" I say and he shakes his head.
"Nothing." He says in a blank voice.
"Hunter, you need to tell me." I watch as his eyes gaze around the room.
"Please, talk to me." I say leading him over to nearby chairs, he sits on one chair and I sit on the other.
"I just thought I was following you and when I looked up I couldn't find you." He says looking at his hands.
"It's okay honey, we all make mistakes. Why did the man rush off?" I ask and he shrugs his small shoulders.
"Did he talk to you?" I ask and he shakes his head.
"Alright, well I think the car's here, let's go ahead and go." I say and he takes ahold of my hand, I smile gently and we walk out to the car, I push my bags in and then Hunter scoots in, me behind him. Our driver looks in her late 40's or 50's maybe, she seems very kind and like she wouldn't hurt a fly.
"Oh what a beautiful little boy!!" She says smiling wide at Hunter.
"Thank you" I say smiling.
"What's his name?" She asks grabbing a candy bar and giving it to him, I take it from her before he can and I examine it.
"Don't worry, I just bought it from the store, I was going to eat it myself but I couldn't resist when I saw his little face." She tells me and I smile and nod as in 'thank you'
"His name is Hunter." I tell her and her eyes have a glow in them.
"And your name?" She asks as she works her way around traffic.
"Alexis." I say buckling Hunter's seatbelt and then my own.
"You're Alexis and Hunter! Luke's little blessings!"
"You know Luke..?" I say surprised.
"I drove him back in Florida, I came here to visit my sister... I didn't know this was where you two were! Oh I'm so happy for you three." She tells me and I look down at my phone.
"Um.. Yeah.. We're here because Luke has been injured pretty badly and he's in the hospital here right now." I say and cross my arms looking out the window to keep myself from crying.
"Oh no.. Please once he is okay and everything, let him know he is in my prayers." She tells me and I nod.
"I will, what's your name?" I ask her as she turns into the hotel's road.
"Betty." She tells me and I nod, I take note in my phone and then start to gather the bags.
"Thank you sweetheart, it was so lovely to meet the two of you." He says parking.
"It was nice to meet you as well." I say and open up the car door.
"If any of you need anything, give me a shout!" She says, I nod and give her a thanks before closing the car door and carrying the bags up to the hotel, the doors automatically slide open in front of me, me and Hunter walk in and up to the front desk.
"Do you have any open rooms?" I ask the man behind the desk, his name is John.
"We do, can I take your last name?" He asks typing away on his little computer.
"Korns." I say sitting the bags down on the floor as I feel they're breaking my arms.
"Luke korns is already checked in here. Are you associated with him?" The man asks and I nod.
"He's my .... Husband." I lie.
"But the room he was staying in is the room they found my best friend in, so I would rather not stay in that one." I tell him and he nods.
"Well that is okay, we have a few open rooms, do you have any floor preferences?" He asks smiling up at me, he's attractive and I can tell he's trying to get my attention, but I just told the man I have a man.
"What floor was Luke staying on?" I ask and he stays silent for a minute as she scrolls and types.
"Floor 6, the top floor." He says and I look down at Hunter who's looking around curiously but also hiding behind my legs.
"Floor one?" I ask and he nods and hands me some keys from behind the counter.
"Don't worry about payment" he tells me as I start to pull out my wallet.
"Uh.. No.. Let me pay." I say and he shakes his head.
"Ma'am you look like you're having a rough day and from what you've told me about finding your best friends body.. It's the least this hotel can do. Please, take the room for free and enjoy your stay." He says and hands me the keys once again, I nod slowly.
"Okay, thank you so much." I tell him and begin to carry the bags down the hall until I find the room number, Hunter follows me closely. Once we reach the correct room I unlock the door and walk inside sitting the bags down and look around. I look over at the closet in the corner of the room and cover my mouth with my hand. This is what Luke came into, this is where she died, she hung there, for God only knows how long. I plop down into the chair and cover my face with my hands and begin to cry as it finally hits me, my best friend is dead.
And there isn't a thing I can do to get her back.
