Alright, so I originally wanted to start this off with a recipe or something like that, but events have come about that really, really make me want to rant.
Anyway, so this is essentially what happened:
A Xicana, a Mexican woman who identifies more with her indigenous heritage, went to a Trump rally to protest against it. She was with a group, she wasn't alone, and she was burning sage. Burning sage, or smudge, is used in many Southwestern tribes as a way to ward off evil and negativity, as well as to cleanse. Now, she was doing this for two hours before cops arrested her due to some woman saying it was fire.
Well, she tried to explain that it was not fire, and that it was smudge, but the police weren't hearing it. Keep in mind, many of the people who were with her were telling the police that it's indigenous and not dangerous.
She was arrested.
Charged.
And put in jail.
Now, as of today, August first, charges have been dropped and now Miss Josie Valadez Fraire is back out protesting, but I'm still pretty pissed. She was calm, didn't attack the police, and tried explaining what she was doing and that the sage wasn't dangerous. Others around her did the same. Did the police care? No. They harassed her.
I'm just...it's just...ugh. I'm beyond words at this point. They not only harassed her, but they took the sage and stomped on it.
Well, if you're wondering what happened to her well, like I said, charges have been dropped and she's still a queen.
When you thought rights activists couldn't get any hotter...
