Despite how much I wanted the next two weeks to be the slowest ever in my life, they seemed to pass by without notice. I couldn't help but notice that the past couple of weeks had been easier than expected. It seemed that even the teachers were excited for this ball thing. I couldn't quite see the appeal in it. I mean, I know that some girls love to get all dressed up, but I'd hardly pin those at this school as followers of that trend. Then again, Lexie was the current definition of that stereotype. She had promised that all of today would be dedicated to getting herself and me ready for the dance. She still wasn't exactly happy with me for ditching her the dress search day, but she was intent on keeping her promise of making me match the elegance of the dress.

I was currently lying on my bed staring up at the ceiling. I had lost interest in looking out of the window seat long ago. I was listening to the sound of the water running from Lexie's shower. I was already out of mine, awaiting Lexie's instruction on what to do with my hair. If I had a choice, I would have just left it straight. Lexie however made me swear not to do anything to it until she got out of the shower. It was going to be a long day. The only bright side of today was that I had been able to sleep in. It was one o'clock and my day was just starting. The ball started at eight and apparently went until anytime.

I groaned at the sound of the shower shutting off. Five minutes later Lexie bounced into the room. I literally mean she bounced in there. I hadn't seen her so excited since Blane asked her out. "Could you relax just a little bit please Lexie? I don't think I can handle you all giggly on top of having to get all fluffed up."

She looked over at me sourly. "Sorry I'm not as depressed as you Shea. Some of us still get excited about things, as astounding as that might seem to you."

"I can still get excited about things. This just isn't all that exhilarating," I muttered back. I wasn't sure whether she had heard me or not until she replied.

"Name the last time you were truly excited about something Shea."

I paused. "I got to sleep in this morning."

"I mean true excitement Shea, not a passing moment of it."

I paused again. The silence only grew longer. I couldn't think of anything off of the top of my head. When was the last time I had truly been excited over something that happened in my life? "Exactly. Now go sit your ass down in my bathroom so that I can get to work on your hair."

I couldn't even give a smart ass comment in reply. It wasn't necessarily that I didn't want to, I just couldn't think of one. That passing thought scared me, but I pushed it to the back of my mind. I had other things to worry about which were more important than not coming up with a smart ass reply.

I trudged through her closet into her bathroom. I noticed my dress out of the corner of my eye. The corner of my mouth rose a little at the sight of it. It quickly fell back down as soon as the dress was no longer in my line of vision. I sat down on the chair obviously placed for me in front of the mirror. Lexie pranced in with a grin plastered on her face.

"You are going to look beyond amazing by the time I'm done with you. You don't get to see any of it until I'm done," Lexie told me as she turned the chair around. "Ayden's going to be the luckiest guy ever to have you on his arm."

I let my head fall back and groaned. "I forgot I have to dance with him."

Lexie looked down at me confused. It was a funny sight as she appeared upside down from my point of view. "Why did you agree to go with him if you didn't want to?" A sly look came onto her face. "Would you rather be going with Bat boy?"
