~3rd Person P.O.V., 10 years ago~
The blond male sat alone in the hall, his thoughts stuck on his deceased master. He had lost an important person a few years ago, about four to be precise, and it was just too much to bare.
He heard commotion outside, ignoring it at first. But then the commotion got louder, his ears picking up at least four males and one female's voices, all of which he didn't recognize.
"I said to stay away from me! You lost your way for father to pay you back, by killing him!" A woman's voice yelled. "And by killing him, I'm not going to work for you!"
"You're working for us rather you like it or not, girl!" A man replied to the girl loudly. "As of right now, in fact!"
The blond monk got up from where he sat and walked angrily outside. He saw that the monks were watching as this scene unfolded, ignoring the fact that these people were arguing on temple grounds. The girl looked about sixteen, with pale skin. Her hair was a lighter shade of navy blue, her eyes an icy blue. She wore a white farmers shirt, and tan pants that were ripped closer to her mid~shins. Dirt covered her clothes, entangled in her messy hair, and over her exposed skin.
There were four men who were circled around her, her against one of the trees. Three men watched as the ones in front of them harassed the girl, two of them in better dress than the rest.
"What's going on here?" The monk asked, irritation in his voice.
"None of your business, monk. Now get going and start reciting your sutras." One of the men around the girl replied.
"Yeah, you can't do anything about it, anyways!" Another laughed, the monk, Genjo Sanzo, frowning deeper. "You're not allowed violence."
"The audacity of you guys." Sanzo growled, the other monks shaking their heads.
"Master Sanzo, you mustn't!" One of the monks exclaimed, seeing Sanzo grip his hand into a fist.
"Oh no, I'm so scared!" One of the guys said, mockingly, pretending to be scared of Sanzo.
"Whatever will we d~" The third one around the girl started, but ended when a fist was slammed into his jaw, sending him to his left side. "Ouch! Bastard, you'll pay for that!"
The other five men charged at Sanzo, all of their fists raised, all aimed at his head. The girl watched, fear reflected in her eyes, her body cringing as the men got closer to the monk. She's already seen enough bloodshed to last her a lifetime, she didn't want to see this monk die for trying to help her out.
Sanzo ducked at the last second, spinning around with his leg outstretched, tripping all five men, before he stood back up and stomped on one of their chests, his amethyst eyes on the two better dressed men.
"I suggest you take your men and get off of the temple's property before I really hurt them." The monk stated, kicking the man he stepped on closer to the standing men, the other four scrambling up towards their masters.
"The hell, he's a monster!" One of the men shouted, clenching his fists, the other four looking at the girl.
"We'll leave, as soon as we collect the girl. She's our property now." The man with a rapier stated, stepping towards a very tense girl, her body frozen.
"A human is no one's property, but Buddha's." Sanzo stated, stepping between the girl and the man, his eyes glaring into brown orbs. "Now, get out of here."
"You're rather persistent, monk. Very well. Seeing as to how she's battered up, anyways, we'll leave her be. For now, anyways. She owes us quite the collection of debt." The man with the rapier smiled, his eyes looking at the girl one last time before he turned around. "Come on, men. We're leaving."
"Y~yes sir!" All but one replied with, all following their master, but one.
He stayed put, watching the cowardice that his superiors were showing. The monk wasn't much to take care of, just a simple, and well planned, punch to the side of his skull would take care of him. The girl was light so taking her wouldn't be much of a problem. The other monks won't interfere, either, which was another good point.
"I said, we're leaving. Or did you not hear me?" The master asked, looking back at the black haired retainer, the retainer hesitantly nodding before catching up to his squadron, glaring at the monk as he did so, the large group disappearing from sight.
"Um, thank you, sir." The girl mumbled, her blue eyes looking down to the ground, rather shyly. "I don't know how to repay you."
"Don't bother. It's that attitude that got you into this mess in the first place, isn't it? Just leave and don't cause me anymore trouble." Sanzo replied, irritated, before turning around to head back to his room.
"But, there has to be something I can do!" The girl pleaded, Sanzo's eyebrows twitching...
~3rd Person P.O.V.~
Goku woke up to Hakkai shaking him, Sanzo still in bed, Gojyo was no where to be seen. For all the three of them knew, he was stupid enough to of been caught by the villagers, and because of his morals, he wouldn't fight back.
"Is it time already?" Goku asked quietly, Hakkai nodding.
"We'll get food first, so we're not fighting on empty stomachs." Hakkai stated, Goku getting out of the bed.
"Alright!" Goku exclaimed, looking over to make sure he didn't wake Sanzo. "I feel kinda bad for him. I mean, he really doesn't like helping people."
"I'm sure he has his reasons, like what Lena said last night." Hakkai sighed, the two of them walking out of the room as quietly as they could.
Little did they know, was that Sanzo was very much awake, very much angry, and very much heard what they said. He rolled over onto his back, his right arm over his forehead. The sun hadn't risen yet, so it was still dark in the room. Yet, the monkey was up, and already too loud. The dream he had didn't exactly help with his mood, either.
"I almost forgot about the circumstances of our meeting." Sanzo sighed silently, his eyes on the ceiling, her smiling face spread on it. "If only I could forget, I'd be able to move on with my life!"
The pain swelled in his chest, his heart feeling as if someone had struck a knife in it, and crushing it at the same time. Twisting it, squeezing it, pulling it. It hurt, it hurt him like hell.
Just remembering her face was enough to break the tough Sanzo down, what would remembering that would do to him? Like a train (well, those don't exist, so let's go with Hakaryu in jeep form) hitting him, he remembered. He remembered the reason he doesn't like helping people.
He remembered the girl's body, hole in her chest and throat, blood around her frail, pale body, on her clothes. He remembered the Abbott, sword in his throat, slowly dying. He remembered the rage that overtook him at seeing the two people he finally let in, being taken away from him.
He remembered the reason why he couldn't get close to anyone. Master, Shuei, Old Man Jikaku, Lena... They all died because they got close to him.
Tears rolled down from the amethyst orbs, down to his ears, and onto the pillow. He gritted his teeth to keep in the pitiful sobs, gripping his fists tightly. He almost forgot that feeling, this sadness. This pain of losing someone dear to you. Not once, but four times.
The sun began to crawl its way up into the sky as Sanzo began to calm down. The tears stopped, but the pain in his heart wouldn't go away. The wound opened up by those words by Lena last night, and won't close again for a long while. Not unless he helped her get out of the hellish situation that she's in.
Sanzo stood up, adjusted his robes, loaded his gun, and looked out the window. Whisps of pink, red, and orange danced across the sky, its gentle light casted down on the silent town. Looking at the door, he passed through it before heading to where Goku and Hakkai were, his eyes hard, cold, and set on the goal. He needed the punching bags, anyways, to vent the anger out.
"Decided to make it?" Hakkai asked, a smile on Goku's face, Gojyo walking up beside Sanzo.
"Ah, I wasn't aware the monk was coming." Gojyo joked, patting Sanzo on the back before he whispered, "Ya know, we all have to face our pasts. I'm glad you're the second one to do it in this group."
"Shut the fuck up." Sanzo growled, shoving Gojyo's hand away from him before looking at the other three. "We ready to head out, then?"
"Yeah, let's go kick some demon ass!" Goku exclaimed, a feminine chuckle behind Sanzo and Gojyo.
"I'm glad I picked you four to help." Lena stated, her eyes squarely on the monk. "Sorry about last night, I wasn't in the best of mindsets for conversation."
"Whatever, let's just hurry up and get this done with." Sanzo growled, walking (well, storming) off.
"That's his way of saying don't do it again." Gojyo laughed, walking off behind Sanzo. "And his way of saying it's alright."
"I know." Lena said silently, smiling, her following behind Gojyo, Hakkai and Goku behind her. "So, here's the plan..."I do not own SaiYuki, its characters, or plot. I own Lena, her brothers, and (most) of the demons.
