Chapter 8: Blood

"Just us, you find out,

Nothing I really wanna tell you about no."

My feet were frozen as we trudged through the mountains. I had stepped in some mud and soaked my feet, thus causing them to freeze in this ridiculous weather! "Stop glaring at the back of my head, it's starting to burn a hole." I laughed haughtily at his stupid joke. He just shook his head and said, "Well if you had been watching where you were going instead of giving me the evil eye, you would have seen the mud puddle and not stepped in it. You shouldn't be mad at me for your mistake."

I breathed deeply trying to calm my cloud of anger before speaking. "Well if you hadn't drugged the only food you gave me, I wouldn't have been glaring at you. So it is your fault." The Ma- Lucas turned around abruptly, his face only inches from mine. My breath caught in my throat when he looked into my eyes. He glanced down at my lips and then back up to my eyes. His voice came out soft,

"Well if I could trust that you wouldn't run off while I was sleeping, then I wouldn't have had to drug the apple." I could feel his warm breath on my face as he spoke, causing a shiver to run down my spine. I put my hand on his chest and pushed slightly, making him step back.

He looked at me weird and I shoved past him, trying to calm the nerves in my stomach. "It's called personal space. Now are we going or what?" The dead leaves crunched beneath my feet as I walked ahead. I glanced back to see Lucas shaking his head and mumbling something before turning to catch up with me.

I glanced ahead at the path before us, groaning in my head. The M-, uh, Lucas, saw my aggravated expression. "Does it ever end?" I moaned out. Lucas laughed and kept walking.

"Come on, we have a long way to go." Was all he said.

I took a deep breath as a wave of pain flashed through my abdomen. I had noticed twinges of pain once in a while since we had left the walls, but I thought it was because I was simply hungry, or the stress. But now this felt different than hunger. I was a deep aching sensation that felt like my whole stomach was in a knot. Lucas glanced over at me as I grabbed my stomach again trying to ease the burning pain away.

It felt like a knife has been stabbed into me and then twisted around to create a burning knot of pain. "Hey, are you okay?" Lucas asked glancing behind at me. I grimaced trying to mask how bad the pain was.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just tired from the walking." He seemed to accept my lie and turned back around, keeping his steady pace in front of me. Another wave of pain erupted in my stomach. It felt like a lithos rope had been shoved done my throat and into my stomach. My foot caught on a rock causing me to fall to the ground. "Aw shit!" I yelled. Lucas abruptly turned around and ran over to me.

"Did you trip? Are you okay?" I couldn't even think, the pain was so bad. The feeling of one knife had turned into 10, then 20 as I lay there on the ground. I gripped my abdomen, trying to stop the pain anyway. "Hey, hey look at me," Lucas said waving his hand in front of my face. His fingers went blurry for a moment as the pain doubled again, gaining a quiet scream out of me.

"God it hurts so much!" I finally cried out while gripping my stomach. It felt like my insides were being hollowed out to make room for a tight, burning, knot of pain. I laid on the ground gripping my stomach praying this pain would go away.
