Chapter 3: Jump

"Use the sleeves of my sweater,

let's have an adventure."

****
I sat still, trying not to move so my ankles and arms wouldn't hurt. I stared at The Man trying to figure out who he was. I had been around people before I was locked up but that was 200 years ago. If I had known him he should be dead. But yet a nagging in my gut said we had met before. At last he finished his apple, at least I wouldn't have to see it anymore and have my stomach growl in response. I was used to at least eating twice a day so I wasn't normally awake this long without breakfast.

The Man stood up and stretched. His shirt came up showing muscle that proved just how strong he was. If it came to a fight he would definitely win. Even with my powers. Wait, my powers! I could just levitate myself up out of his reach, knock him unconscious, and make sure he never came back here again! I carefully stood up. It was difficult with my hands still tied, but after ignoring the pain, I was on two feet again. The Man was rummaging around in his bag and he didn't notice me get up. I pulsed energy to my feet and imagined my body slowly lifting up from the ground higher and higher. I opened my eyes and looked down. I was still in the same spot, this always worked! Maybe I was over thinking it.

I tried again this time just thinking of going up, I concentrated my energy into my feet and relaxed. I opened my eyes slowly praying it had worked.

I looked at my bare feet still firmly on the grass. I stomped my foot in frustration, "WHY ISN'T IT WORKING!" I covered my mouth quickly feeling the rope rub against my lips, burning them. The Man turned around and smiled.

"The rope has Lithos in it, you're allergic to it because of your magic inside you. It also draws out your energy and in doing so strengthens itself. Every minute it's touching you, you get weaker and the Lithos rope gets stronger." he chuckled and picked up his bag as if it was common knowledge. What! If I lost my powers I was nothing. Just a normal human except even weaker. That's why my skin rubbed away so quickly! And it burns my skin because of the lithos reaction towards magic. My body had its own defense system, I knew this from when I fell out of my tree before I had control over my powers.

When I had hit the ground a lot of my bones had broken. I remember laying there screaming. But after a couple of minutes, the pain got worse. Burning sensations were all over my body. Then I felt better; when I tried to move all the pain was gone. My body could heal itself. It wasn't working now because of the rope. And since the Lithos got stronger every minute it rubbed away at my skin easier and easier.

It all made sense now, but that didn't help my current situation. "Come on I don't have all day. They're waiting." I snapped out of my thoughts and noticed The Man was standing at the chasm. The one way in or out. "We have to jump across, I know I can make it but you're not as strong as you were. I'll have to carry you." he gestured for me to walk over to him. I was not going to be carried by him just because He thought I was weak! For a moment I remembered what had happened at my tree hole and my heart fluttered at the thought of him holding me. No! I am strong enough, just because he's averagely good looking, doesn't mean I do what he wants.

"I can make it across by myself! I'm stronger than I look." I refused to look weak, especially when I'm not!

"Fine, not my fault when you don't make it." He then took a step back and jumped. I watched him sail through the air as if he had done it a million times before.

I walked up to the very edge. I would do it without a running start, just to show him. I had done it before and I would do it now. I pushed up and threw myself across. I got closer to the edge but I was falling too fast, I wasn't going to make it! I reached my tied hands up to grab the ledge, but my fingertips barely grazed it before I fell. I couldn't stop the scream from escaping my lips. My body fell and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
