Russetpaw couldn't believe it. He was picked to go to the Gathering with the others! He was so excited. Shiverpaw, Adderpaw, and Shadepaw might be there as well. Russetpaw was always ready for a Gathering, no matter who was there. He padded alongside his mentor, Fernwind, as the group of cats began to trek towards the island.
Fernwind mewed to Russetpaw, "So, I've always seen you talk to those apprentices at each Gathering you go to. You're still loyal to your own clan, right?"
Russetpaw nodded. Why does she think I'm disloyal just for doing what Gathering are sort of for?
"Not to test your loyalty or anything," Fernwind mewed quickly, "but I'm glad for you. Something tells me that no matter who you speak to at Gatherings, you're going to grow up as a loyal warrior, and know what Clan you're loyal to."
Russetpaw nodded again, "Of course, Fernwind."
They stopped at the log that crosses to the island. Russetpaw crossed slowly and carefully, a little nervous. The only thing that scared Russetpaw was getting to and from the island. The log seemed a little unsafe. But Russetpaw knew his Clanmates were going to catch him.
Russetpaw did slip once, on his first Gathering as an apprentice. (This Gathering would be his Third) But he was near Bramblestar at the time, and Bramblestar caught him by the tail, and Russetpaw ended up not slipping into the water like he feared.
Russetpaw hopped off the log and looked around at the crowd of cats. He surveyed them, looking for the apprentices. He spotted Shiverpaw, and bounded over to meet her. Shiverpaw waved her tail in greeting, then when Russetpaw got closer, Shiverpaw whispered, "Hey, did you hear Mistystar went out fishing, and caught a big fish, it was so big, it was the size of my entire body! Riverclan is eating well tonight!"
"Woah, that's awesome," Russetpaw hissed back, "Has that happened ever before?"
"Not often," Shiverpaw shrugged, "But that's still pretty cool. Where do you think Shadepaw is?"
"Maybe he wasn't chosen to come to the Gathering tonight...?" Russetpaw suggested.
"Sorry guys!" Shadepaw mewed as he sprinted over to them, breathing heavily, "My mentor had to hold me for the talk about 'loyalty to clan'. I just don't get why she has to hold me for the same talk over and over again. I mean, I get it! I'm loyal!" Shadepaw sniffed.
"Fernwind asked me if I was still loyal as well," Russetpaw mewed, "I think now the mentors are all worried about this ever since the Great Battle. I mean, yes, that battle was terrible, so many cats from our clans joined the Dark Forest, but there's really nothing to worry about now! The Dark Forest won't come back. There's no way we can come to the Dark Forest anymore."
"Same. So...Adderpaw didn't come?" Shiverpaw meowed.
"Guess not," Shadepaw replied.
"Unless...there he is," Shiverpaw pointed her tail at the figure of Adderpaw racing towards them.
"Sorry! Windclan was late!" Adderpaw huffed, as he stopped to catch a breath.
"Why? That's not like Windclan," Russetpaw asked.
"Onestar will say," Adderpaw, at the exact moment the leader flicked their tails for silence. The Meeting had begun.
I really like writing Gatherings! So, I will do a second part of the Gathering (Still in Russetpaw's point of view) just because every Gathering is different, and same is said for this Gathering...
