*Emily's pov*
"Native Americans grazed the new land until Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492" blah blah blah...
God, I hated school. It was still the end of August and I was already neck-deep in summer assignments that she had neglected to do all summer. I rest her head in her hands and sighed deeply, inhaling the warm bakery fumes of the Starbucks I was at. I had to restrain myself from writing "who fucking cares" on my history assignment.... I mean all this stuff was in the past, and isn't it bad to dwell on the past?
I had been at Starbucks for the past 3 hours, yet only managed to write 2 paragraphs. I cursed her inability to concentrate as I mindlessly scrolled through Instagram. Okay, 1 more paragraph and I'm done for the day, my mind already wandering to TV shows I would catch up on later. As I furiously began to type again, I felt a presence watching me. At first, I ignored it, assuming my paranoid mind was getting the best of me again. Eventually, My eyes snapped up to meet the dark brown eyes of a tall individual.
Calum Hood.
I remembered Calum, as he was in my advanced biology class when I transferred to the school last year. We barely spoke a sentence to each other, even after we became lab partners.
He cleared his throat; "Um hey can I sit here? Café's full" He looked around. I nodded awkwardly, my eyes still glued to his face. Maybe it was because I was the awkwardest person in social situations or maybe it was because he wasn't that bad of a looker, but I was at a loss for words.
He flashed a smile that was so small only I could see it, and honestly, it made my stomach flutter. He pulled the chair and began to pull his books from his bag as well. I couldn't help but stare at him intently. This tall, cute, dark haired boy had sat next to me almost all of last year; but why was he choosing now to talk to me? His face was rather oval, but his dimpled features and cute smile reeled me in.
"Earth to Emily?" Calum waved his hand 3 inches in front of My nose, causing me to snap out of my dreamy thoughts of him. "Can I borrow a pencil?" Calum chuckled. I nodded shyly as I handed him the one I had been using. Of course, not without almost stabbing him in the hand as I did so. I was quite awkward around new people. Fuck, what am I supposed to use now?
It was fine. I Could spend the rest of the hour staring at the boy sat in front of me.
