I step out of the door and immediately feel the cold air hit my face.

"Fuck." I mumble. Winter is the worst season and I hate it. I take a few steps to the right and my short walk is over as I step up the stone steps to the neighbor's doorway. Without bothering to knock, I open the door and step inside.

"Niall, hurry your ass up! It's freezing outside and you know I hate the cold!" I shout, quite impatiently. I take a seat on the unusual neon orange couch in the living room and flick on the tv. This may all seem surprising and rude, but to me it's not at all. Niall has been my neighbor since he moved in when I was in the fourth grade and he was in the fifth. I was always so exited to be able to have a new friend right next door, a new friend... or more? I laugh at my young and dumb self. Today the thought of me with Niall makes me want to gag, it's like dating my brother. That is, if I still had a brother.

Just as I begin to get into "Criminal Minds" a sleepy looking Niall marches down the stairs. Niall has never been much of a morning person, unlike me. I get up no later than 8:00 and spend the morning watching tv or scrolling through tumblr. Im not the most social, especially not compared to basketball playing, football playing, every-sport-under-the-sun-playing popular Niall. It's so unusual being best friends with someone who is so extremely different from me.

"Does this look ok?" he groans, clearly still half asleep. I laugh and say yes without even looking at the outfit. Niall looks good in anything he throws on and he knows it, he just loves being showered with complements. By the time he has eaten his cereal and is ready to go, it is 7:50, and school begins at 7:30, not including the 15 or so minutes it takes to get there. He plops down in the yellow chair next to the couch. This living room really does need a makeover.

"Whats the plot on this one?" he asks. We don't even have to communicate, we both know we're skipping first period.

"Well, that girl is crazy because her father raped her when she was young, so she abducts women and makes them into her dolls."

"Huh," Niall grumbles "Makes total sense." I laugh. He can be such a wise ass.

"Why do you even like this show? It requires too much thinking." He asks me this every time I watch it, and every time I give him the same answer.

"Maybe thinking isn't so bad."

"Eh." he grumbles, and we are silent for the rest of the episode.
