Chapter 6
Rebecca POV
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I pulled up to the starting line avoiding eye contact with Parker. I looked over to my left to see the 2010 red and black Dodge Challenger. I know all the boys here that I raced before were glad to let me race him. Nobody wants to get whooped by a girl at the race track. Boy, must be really crazy. Oh well, another pretty little toy for my collection. I might even let Parker follow me home in it.
The tree lit up and I gassed it. We started side by side. After the first quarter of the mile I inched down the gas peddle more and more. I flew past the Challenger , causing Parker to grip his seat even tighter. When we reached the end of the track I took the first available right off of the track. As soon as I did my burn out in the pits, I parked the car. I looked over at Parker, and busted out laughing. His mouth was hanging open and he was still looking forward.
He turned to look at me square in the face. We stayed like that for about five minutes. He finally decided to break the silence. "Did you just beat that Challenger, or am I dreaming?" he asked with a concerned look on his face. "This is a dream." I replied sarcastically. About that time the Challenger pulled up beside us. The driver climbed out of the car but, all I could see was his light colored jeans and dark blue Aeropostale t-shirt.
I wanted to see the face of my lasted loser but, I also didn't want to seem to obvious. So, I opened the door and stood up fixing my dress. I walked to the front of the car and sat on the edge of the hood. The driver of the Dodge Challenger walked up beside me. I could tell it was him because of his clothes. I turned my head to the right to look at his face.
My mouth fell open, it was OMG it was Drew! My forever best friend that I have only contacted through text messages the past few weeks. I missed him so much, and now he is here in person, I cant believe it. He hadn't changed at all still had the same smooth and silky tan skin, and those warm chocolate brown eyes that when you looked in them seemed to have to end. Brown hair with natural blonde highlights from the sun swaying across his forehead.
I slung my arms around him and hugged him as close as we could get . My skin tingling where ever our bodies touched, making me feel like my bones are melting. I thought, I would never see him again since we moved. I am so glad I moved, I couldn't bear being away from him much longer. I couldn't knock the smile off my face I was just so happy. I pushed him back away from me , so I could soak in as much Drew-ness as possible.
He had that lopsided grin on that he knows I can never resist. "So why did you come with him?" he asked venom clearly showing in his question. "Oh, umm this is just my new neighbor, be nice." I commanded stuttering at little at first unsure of how much to tell him. I also plastered on his favorite smile to butter him up just a bit.
Parker POV
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who in the world is that guy she is hanging all over, on our date. I cant freaking believe this. If she hasn't noticed I am still sitting here. Oh, well no for long. I hopped out of the car and walked over to the front of the car and plopped myself down beside Rebecca. She turned to face me. "Parker this is Drew, my best friend since diapers. Drew this is Parker, my new neighbor." she informed each of us using her hands to point at each of us. Yeah, like I believe he thinks they are just friends. I will be keeping my eye on him. Rebecca doesn't need to get hurt.
Drew POV
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can see jealousy written all over that punks face. He better not be getting any ideas about my girl. That's right MY girl. I can tell I may have to work hard for her, but I know that she will always be worth it in the long run. I tried to smile but, I could tell it probably looked more like a grimace. "So what do you like to do?" I asked Parker not bothering to be polite. Rebecca starred daggers at me. "Hey, I'm just trying to get to know the competition!" I told her successfully putting a grin on my face this time. She climbed in her car and slammed the door. Parker jumped off the front of the hood just in time to escape being thrown off. She drove away tires squealing as she went. Leaving Parker and I standing here. His mouth agape, I can't believe she left me here with him.
We don't even know each other for goodness sakes. But, I guess this is a good time to inform him to stay away from my girl. "So you like her?" I asked Parker. "Yeah, what's it to you?" he snapped at me. "She is mine that's what it is to me!" I yelled.
"Yours?" he asked confusion clearly showing on his face. "Yeah were getting married." He turned and ran . I had no clue where he was going but he was in a hurry. I opened the door to the Challenger and got in. I put it in drive and pulled up beside Parker. "Hey, dude get in." I yelled over the sound of engine. Just because he likes my girl doesn't mean I cant be nice. If have to marry her at least I can be nice to her friends, right. He got in and I drove to the local Toy's R Us. She loves that store, she always goes there when she gets stressed or upset about something. The stuffed animals calm her down. But, we are suppose to be meeting our parents at the Red Lobster downtown, to discuss the marriage.
When we got there, I saw her car parked in the parking spot that has that weird giraffe on it, whatever that things name is. I walked in the store and headed straight towards the stuffed animals, Parker looking at me as if I was crazy. As, I suspected she was there right in the middle of all the teddy bears. Laying on her side weeping it pained me to see her so unhappy. I walked up beside her and held her in my arms, she stopped sobbing and made it to a slow cry. I wiped away the tears with my thumbs and kissed the top of her head, a way of saying everything will be okay.
A few minutes later we stood up and she straightened her dress. I looked down at her, I just wanted to touch her lips.
Rebecca POV
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After, we got out to the parking lot, I told Parker about the text my mom sent. - meet us Red Lob. downtown talk abt U and P marriage b there- Is what the message read. I didn't know what to tell them . I really loved Parker and I always thought we would make a good couple but, I just never knew if he liked me like that or not. I don't want to risk our friendship but, an arranged marriage is an easy way of getting what I wanted.
