I looked back up at Jess and answered her question, "No, you were hit by a sleeping dart. Someone was trying to kill you. Us." Jess stopped freaking out about Kool Kidz being in the room and put on a very shocked expression. "You're not serious," she let her voice trail off. I just nodded and told her, "Apparently your dad is a very important U.S. Military figure, because they were planning on killing you to get to him."
Jess looked like she was about to cry when she said, "Oh my gosh...... That's horrible!" I nodded slowly in agreement, then shivered. Jess's eyebrows were knit up, as if she were trying to decide wether or not this was a dream. "Wow," I said, "I didn't realize how cold it was." Then, the boy who pretty much saved my life, said, "Oh, must be the adrenaline giving you goosebumps. Do you want to come backstage and borrow a jacket? Oh, and, while we're at it, we should probably alert the police about your...situation."
Jess, still in shock about the whole thing, and that Kool Kidz was in the room, stood up very slowly. "Can I come too?" she squealed. She seemed to have completely forgotten about almost being killed, and was now just in awe of the boys...again. The boys all looked at one another, and I could tell that the Hispanic dude was about to say no when another of the boys interrupted him and answered, "Of course." The one who had been about to stop Jess glared at him and they had a silent argument with their eyes.
The boy (with the gorgeous eyes who had saved my life) walked to me, ignoring the other guys, and held out his hand. I took it and stood myself up. "Thanks," I mumbled, still confused with all the drama. Jess had a few spaz attacks. I was worried for her. "Jess is such a spaz," I murmured to myself, and the guys laughed. I'm sure I blushed profusely, but as I couldn't see my face, I just hoped that I looked like I knew what I was doing. "Um, Jess is your biggest fan," I said as I gestured to her. I looked at Jess, and she had an expression of absolute bliss in her face, as if she could not thank me enough for "complimenting" her. Although, I don't understand how being obsessed with someone you don't even know is all that great of a compliment.
Jess nodded enthusiastically and said, "I have all of your posters, from every magazine. I have your bracelets, your mugs, your notebooks, your iPhone case..." and etcetera. Pretty much just think of any sort of merchandise imaginable, Jess probably had it with the Kool Kidz' faces or logo stamped on it.
When Jess was finished gushing, the boy looked at me and said, "Well, let me introduce us. I'm Nate, that's Blake, that's James, and that's Steven." He gestured to each of the boys as he said their names, and they each offered up a smile.
"Well," James said, "We've got a concert to sing at. Otherwise, a bajillion screaming fangirls will be devastated. They'll probably all 'die' if we don't show up." Blake nodded sarcastically, and mumbled, "Poor them. Their daddies paid for them to come to a concert and they didn't get our autograph. Don't they have anything better to do?" The boys seemed to have forgotten that Jess, one of those "fangirls""was right in he room, but she was in so much awe of them, she didn't even care.
Nate rolled his eyes at his band mates, and gestured for me to follow him to backstage. He three other boys walked ahead, laughing and taunting, while Jess trailed behind them, being equivalent to a little kid who had just gotten a puppy and had cotton candy in hand on Christmas morning. Nate walked next to me in silence, and I couldn't help being a bit intimidated. I was in the presence of possibly the most famous band ever, and one of their band mates had just saved my life from a terrorist. That was very ...surreal.
I was still in shock and numb about what had just happened, expecting to wake up in my bed any second. This had just been a dream, right? Just to make sure, I pinched myself. It didn't work.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that. You must be pretty ....uh ....in shock, I guess," Nate said. I nodded, agreeing definitely. I couldn't help but think of what Jess had said about him earlier, how he was the more sensitive one. So far, that was showing to be true. The other boys kept making cracks at their fans' expense.
