 Taedyn's POV

I hate this place. I hate this mission. The vampires are mostly extinct and the ones still alive, don’t come out much to advertise their whereabouts. I can't believe I allowed Seren to drag me along on this mission. Then, to top it all off, he goes into some diner and orders a burger! A fucking cheeseburger! Seren likes to think he has absolutely no responsibility. Boy is he wrong. We were tasked with this mission for a reason.

Search for the source of the increased mythical activity in the area and report back to the Bloody Souls. That’s our mission. Now, Seren’s finally getting serious about it. He says what we’re really searching for is a girl. Something about how, if she’s alive, the vampire’s will come looking for her as well. Why the Bloody Souls want us to find this girl, I have absolutely no idea. I’m not even entirely sure Seren knows. Or if he does, he isn’t telling me. Time was running out though. I could feel it.

The Bloody Souls are an organization created for the specific reason of making the law and handling problems for our kind. They keep the peace between all mythical creatures and keep our existence secret from the human population. Considering this increased mythical activity was a potential problem, they had sent us four out to investigate.

The only problem was we had no idea what to look for. Sure, Seren said it was a girl, but he also said she was supposed to be dead. If that’s true, what’s drawing the mythical creatures here? If this girl does turn out to be alive, we’re supposed to get her back to Valhollow, the capital of the mythic world. She’s to be kept from the vampires at all cost. This was problematic considering we had exposed ourselves and led them right to her.

I could feel dangers lurking in the shadows just outside the city. Her power had to be important to draw them all here.  My attention snapped away from my thoughts as I could no longer ignore the two idiots, Cayjo and Corey, messing around and annoying the hell out of me. I swear that if they do not shut up soon, I’m going to murder them and I am going to enjoy it.

"Seren, we’re wasting time, we should be looking for the girl."  I growled.

"Feel free to go look yourself. It’s the middle of the night and everyone here is sleeping, but I’m sure you’ll find her with no trouble.” Seren responded, finally showing a smidge of annoyance with my attitude. I grunted in response, hating that he was right.

“You know what your problem is, Taedyn, you have no sense of enjoyment. You hate to open up to anything or stray from any intended path of travel," Seren said smiling to himself. Then, looking at me, he said, “because you’re anal."

That really set me off. I wanted to punch him in the face, but instead I shot up and tackled him to the ground. To be honest, I hated the guy.  We have known each other for years and I still cannot get over the fact that he likes to annoy me. We tousled for a few minutes, then Seren just laughed. I shoved away from him, growling in annoyance.

"That never gets old." Seren said.

"You had better start getting serious about this mission Seren. I smell more danger than we anticipated."

The twins who had paused from their incessant squabble to watch Seren and I fight now returned to arguing about whether or not the Joker could take down Wolverine or something of the sort. I hadn’t even wanted to come on this mission, but my mentor, Mr. Quarterstone had summoned me after five years of being on my own and I really had no choice. Especially not after he got Seren and I together.

Cassie's POV

My head hurt a lot and I couldn’t figure out why. Looking around, I saw large trees, taller than any I had ever seen. There were no sounds; no birds chirping or wind rustling the leaves. There were also no people or any animals. The forest, park, whatever it was, was abandoned. I stood up and walked through the tall grass and trees, looking for any signs of life.

 Nothing....

So I kept on walking for what seemed like hours and for alI I knew, it very well could have been.  But then I heard voices ringing through the air suddenly. It was so startling, I had to suppress a squeal of terror. The sound shook through me because of the stone silence from before. I focused and suddenly I was in the bushes of the forest near my house.

 "Haha."

 Laughing?

 "Grrrr."

 "That never gets old."

There were two distinct voices.  It seemed...as if...I knew one of the voices somehow.

"You had better start getting serious about this mission, Seren.  I smell more danger than we anticipated."

What could that even mean?  Was any of this supposed to make sense?  Wait...Hold up.  Seren?  I've heard that name before... where...oh...ah, the diner.  The dream sped up fast after that and the distinct words turned into a humm… It was like a movie speeding up after pressing the fast-forward button.

I sat up, glancing around, wondering what was going on, and trying to find something familiar.  My room. Okay. What happened? I was...I...dreaming. It came back in flashes. The quiet, then the voices, and...Seren!! That guy from the diner.

Why was I dreaming about them? They didn’t make that much of an impression on my, did they? I have to find those four guys again. They could be terrorists and I need to find out what they are up to. Maybe now I can really put my detective goal in the works. I barely even looked at the clock which said 8:19 A.M. The time didn’t register in my head.

I clambered out of bed and quickly climbed into the shower only to run back out because the water was freezing cold. “Ahhhhhh. That’s frickin cold man!”  I supposed I’d have to skip the shower. My parents probably forgot to pay the water bill, again. So instead I washed my hair in the sink. I’ll tell them later and probably have to go pay it myself. They’re too far away to care about problems here while they’re helping fix problems in wherever the hell they headed off to this time. Africa, China, whatever.

I yanked up a pair of dark blue skinny jeans and a purple t-shirt with a black vest.  Then I tossed my bag over my shoulders and slipped into my flats.  I didn’t doubt that they probably would never come back to the diner, so I was going to see if I could search them out before work. Hopefully I wouldn’t get too caught up to be late again.  Destin would be really really mad at me, but, if I do this right, we won’t have to have that conversation. I’d call him later if it turned out I couldn’t make it.

I was flying out the door and down the sidewalk into town before my better judgement could decide otherwise.
