01.

My fingertips became warm as my grip on my coffee mug tightened. I watched the raindrops glisten down the window, leaving an intricate pattern. The diner had a musty smell, making me cringe. I leaned my head against the window, drifting my eyes towards a boy running across the street in the direction of the diner. I lifted my head up slowly, raising my eyebrows in interest. He wore a fainted red and black flannel with dark washed jeans, and work boots. He held a newspaper over his head, shielding the rain from his delicate waves.

The boy approached the direction of the diner. The bell 'dinged' as the door of the diner opened. He shook his head, raindrops leaving the luscious wave of his hair. I nearly dropped my mug as he sat down in the booth beside me. A waitress walked over, heels clicking as she stopped in front of his booth.

"What can I get you?" She asked nicely.

"Get me a beer," He harshly remarked. I cringed. It was nearly 10 am. and he was asking for a beer?

Drunk, I thought to myself. The smell of cologne was infuriating as I began to plug my nose. Raising one hand, I beckoned for my check.

I heard faint voices behind me and I sat, waiting.

"Who's the girl?" I heard, picturing him nodding his head in my direction.

"Lennox, she's a regular." The waitress beamed, pointing towards me.

"Peculiar name," He snorted. She laughed lightly.

"Yeah, her mothers no different. The peculiar part, I mean." She snickered. I leaned back in disbelief, clenching my fists. He laughed aloud, banging his hands on the table. My fists still clenched, I grabbed my jacket and walked quickly past the two, looking straight forward.

The rain was still pouring as I stood outside the diner, jacket overhead, waiting for a taxi. I scanned the streets for a yellow cab, not finding anything in sight. I heard the bell of the diner 'ding' and I snapped my head quickly in that direction, hair sticking to my newly damp face. It was him.

"Hey." He greeted. I didnt answer, instead I began to walk almost tripping on my feet as a strong hand grasped my arm, tightening the grip.

"Let go of me," I protested, trying to break free. He smirked and slipped a piece of paper into my pocket.

"What's this?" I asked simply. He chuckled.

"My number."

"And why would I need this?" I raised an eyebrow.

"In case you ever need anything." He winked. I made a noise of disgust as he began to walk away.

"Hey!" I shouted. "What's your name?"

"Zayn, why?" He approached me slowly once again.

"Well, Zayn," I smiled, pulling the number out of my pocket.

"I'm not into assholes."
