"Can you bring me home?" Amy asked, wanting to return to her family.
"Not unless I hear a plea from Earth again. From your time period, at that."
"I'm not even going to ask you to explain that."
"Just know time doesn't flow here, so I can hear from every time period." Alex went on, "And since time doesn't flow I am practically agelss. However whenever I go to a different planet or time-period I age for however long I stay there..."
Amy didn't understand any of it, but she noticed something, faint voices crying and screaming, "Help us!" She frowned and looked around for the source.
"You hear them, don't you?" Alex murmured, tilting his head to the side.
"What are they?"
"The voices of a dying nation..." A smile illuminated on his face as a sand storm separated them, blinding her. She threw her arms up over her face, trying to keep the sand out of her eyes.
How? She wondered. She was in the middle of space! Where the heck was all this sand coming from? " Alex? ALEX?!"
"Do not fear," she heard him say, "We have a bond now, you will be safe as long as you trust me." The sands died down, eyes opened to reveal she was no longer floating - or standing - in space. There was sand burning under her feet and a blissful red sky.
"Welcome to a different world, a different planet." Amy looked ahead to see Alex, unshaken, calm. Standing in a open stance, hands in his pockets. His black jacket blew up around his arms in the wind. "This, is Vewsep, a land of desert and ocean."
"All I see is desert..."
"What?" He looked around, confused. His eyes suddenly widened and met hers. "That's why they called me. Their ocean, their only water supply, is gone!"
