They creep under your bed
Watch you from the closet
With teeth for eyes
And a hunger for lies.
They have curling tendrils of darkness
That crawl up your arms,
They smile in the moonlight
Their pupils dilated; their eyes off-white.
Their hands are made of shadows
Their laughs sound like razor blades
Against skin; swish swish....
Their love is death; a frozen kiss.
You can feel them moving on the floor
Pouring out the bookshelves
Reaching for your heart
Wanting to tear your body apart.
One day they reach you; their hands take yours
Coldness so profound you find it calming
And they take you away
To another time; another day.
You try to forget; move on with your life,
To find better horizons and prettier faces
Where no one knows of your fears,
Of those monsters and your tears.
But slowly; surely; they creep back into your world,
Through the footsteps of dancers
Through strangers eyes,
Through the heat; the buzzing of flies.
You find yourself in a bedroom;
A boy is sleeping with soft snores...
So what do you do?
You realize that those monsters are now you.
