Pascale Bellamy laid on the hot sandy beach, the sound of water crashing against the shore, and other people talking and laughing filled her ears. Her family and some friends had taken a six hour road trip from Paris to Brest for Pascale's sixteenth birthday. Dominique and Jacqueline laid beside Pascale, the three friends wearing nearly identical swimsuits, only different in colour.
Dominique's irritation at the high waisted bottoms was clearly visible on her face, she much preferred the full pieced bathing suits that where oh-so in style right now, in fact, the tan girl despised anything but her polka-dot skirts.
"You didn't have to wear one if you didn't want to" Jacqueline said, removing her aviators.
"I know, but if I didn't we wouldn't be matching" Dominique replied as if it was the most obvious thing. Pascale let out a laugh, and used her hand to cover it. A small amount of water trickled out of the curious tiny holes under her fingernails. Pascale tried not to think about them often, as they confused her, though she didn't notice the water that trickled out of them whenever she laughed. She took a swig from her water bottle, and tightened her blond ponytail.
"Pascale, I swear you drink five of those everyday" Jacqueline observed. But what Jacqueline didn't know was the consequences Pascale faced if she didn't drink that amount of water everyday. Pascale shrugged, and continued to sip her water.
The three french girls decided they had tanned enough, and that it was time to head into the water. They splashed around, and swam, Dominique told a joke at some point, and Pascale laughed. Water spewed out of Pascale's fingers, alarming her. Thankfully, the two other girls had their backs turned.
"What?" Pascale muttered, and examined her fingers.
"Did you say something 'Scale?" Jacqueline asked.
"Oh, um, no I didn't" Pascale replied, shoving her hands behind her back, though she continued to run her nails over the holes on the opposite hand.
The three continued to swim, though Pascale wasn't as enthusiastic as Dominique and Jacqueline.
"Doing alright 'Scale? You don't look to hot" Dominique inquired, noting Pascale's lack of enthusiasm and scared look.
"Um, I'm not feeling so good" Pascale lied. She wanted to examine the holes in her fingers, the fact that water spewed out of them when she laughed terrified her.
"You must've gotten too much sun, let's head back to the hotel, it's beginning to get dark anyways" Jacqueline suggested.
The french-speaking ladies gathered their things, Dominique and Pascale both slipped on a dress, Pascale's being floral patterned, rather then polka-dot, and Jacqueline pulled on her high waisted shorts, but left off her top, just wearing the bathing suit.
As they walked, Pascale scoured the ground for any kind of stone for her collection, she enjoyed painting them white, then using them as decorations around her bedroom. The hot July weather felt nice on their skin, though it caused them to sweat, much to their displeasure.
At the hotel, Pascale locked herself in the bathroom, and delicately examined the holes in her fingers with her dark blue nails. Now, as she thought about the water, it came out, not just when she laughed.
Over the rest of her vacation, Pascale became fascinated with the holes, and the water that came out of them. She attempted to control it a bit, but was unsuccessful.
Now back at her home in Paris, Pascale sat at her desk, painting one of the stones she had taken from Brest. Luckily, her parents hadn't found out about the water-spewing-holes, they where currently on a date right now, and Pascale was left home alone.
