Theo let Malia drive his truck on the empty road.  So far so good, she was doing great, but, Theo believed she could do better than this.  He sighs, bored at the speed limit she's doing.  No one follows the stupid speed limit.  He looks over to her hands.  He laughs, 10 and 3.  So typical.  He shakes his head in disbelief.

"We can go a little faster, if you want."  He suggests.

Malia keeps her eyes on the road, "I'm doing the speed limit."

"Nobody does the speed limit."  Theo scoffs.  "You also don't have to hold the wheel like that.  Put your hand here."  He takes her right hand and guides it lower.

Malia shivers a little at his touch.  What the hell?

"Like this.  Better?"  He gives her his charming smile.

It was.  It was so much better.  She begins to feel more comfortable....till the flashbacks started again.

She places her hands on top of the wheel...like her mother did that night.  She remembers her little sister sitting next to her, playing with her little baby doll.

Malia's breath starts to pick up, her foot unconsciously presses down on the gas as the flashbacks keep coming.

"Okay, I said a little faster.  Not Mach 5."  Theo laughs.  But, he notices something was wrong.  "Malia, you okay?"

Malia didn't answer.  She couldn't move, except for her foot which kept pressing down on the gas harder.

"Hey, slow down."  Theo reaches to take the wheel but she jerks it to the side that makes him slam back.  She speeds up more.  Everything around her seems to have stopped.  She seemed frozen.  Her breathing picks up.  She could barely hear Theo yelling at her.

"Malia, stop!"  His voice muffles around her. "Stop the car! Stop the car!"

She finally slams on the brakes and jumps out of the truck.  Running out on to the middle of the road.  She collapses on to her knees.  Spacing out as Theo continues to call out to her.

"Malia! Malia!"

Panting heavily, Malia digs her nails into the pavement as the memories continue to fill her mind.

"Malia? Malia

"Malia? Malia."  Theo continues to call out to her, but she wasn't listening.  All she could do was just sit there on her knees...remembering that night.  The night when she lost her foster mom and sister.
