Its been two years since Sadie Patterson's parents cut her off and in those two years she has learned to become a better individual. One that wasn't dependent on trust funds or maids to pick up after her. The first month was the most difficult because she wasn't used to living with roommates let alone two boys who, in her honest opinion, were rather fucked up in the head.
The pretty boy, Lucas, was drowning his sorrows in school. He doesn't go on dates, he seems like he hasn't had sex in years also he dressed like an old man. Sadie often felt bad for him, which is why she decided to become his confidante. The two formed a close bond and often confided with each other. Sadie told him about her family and how unaccepting they were towards the fact that she's a lesbian and Lucas told her everything about the blonde beauty that left for Paris to pursue her dreams as an artist.
The flirt, Zay, was always hogging the TV remote so he could watch a Spanish soap opera about a lawyer who owns a vineyard. On the very first day of her move Zay flirted with her a couple times until she told him she was interested in girls. From then on he backed off and they became great friends. Whenever a creepy guy flirted with Sadie in the bar, Zay would pretend to be her boyfriend and whenever Zay bumps into one of his exes Sadie would play the doting new girlfriend.
Days like today Sadie was glad her parents decided to cut her off. Without her parents doing so she wouldn't have met Lucas and Zay. They taught her everything there is to know about becoming an adult and becoming her own individual, one that didn't depend on her parents for anything.
Okay, lets not forget Farkle. Sadie loved that freaky genius and his eccentric ways. He moved in six months ago after a bad breakup with Isadora Smackle. He was pretty damaged after the break up but at least he's open to dating other people unlike Lucas who was still hung up on the blonde beauty. Honestly, Sadie didn't know who this girl was. All she knew about her was that Lucas and Zay called her blonde beauty. No one dared mention her name in front of Lucas because everyone knew she was a touchy subject for him.
"Oh my God," Zay exclaimed, slamming his laptop shut and throwing it off the couch. He stood up from the couch and crossed his arms, "This is bad. This is really, really bad."
Sadie, who sat beside him in the red couch, was confused. She furrowed her eyebrows and asked, "What happened?"
Hesitantly Zay said, "Maya and Riley. They're back."
♡
Once Zay told Sadie who Maya and Riley were she understood the severity of the situation. She didn't understand why they would be back after only four years of living in Paris to chase their dreams. It didn't make sense. Something tragic must've happened for them to return. Sadie snapped out of her thoughts once Zay nudged her on the arm. She blinked repeatedly and spewed out, "What?"
"I said, what are we gonna do? If Lucas finds out she's here he would be absolutely devastated." Zay repeated himself, slouching on the couch with Sadie's hand rubbing his back.
"Lucas is a grown ass man, he can handle this." Sadie said nonchalantly.
"See, you don't know how Lucas is when he's around Maya," Zay started, crossing his fingers as he turned to face Sadie. "When we were in middle school Riley and Maya thought it would be fun to enter Lucas to compete in a rodeo. We went to Texas together and Lucas won but afterwards in the campfire shit got real."
Sadie moved closer to Zay, intrigued by his opening statement. "What exactly happened on the campfire?"
"Before we get to that, I should probably tell you that in middle school Lucas liked Riley and Riley liked Lucas. If you don't know yet Riley is Maya's best friend," Zay explained, clearing his throat before going on, "Maya always teased Lucas by calling him names like huckleberry, ranger Rick or ranger Roy. One time Lucas retaliated and stuff just got all over the place. Mr. Matthews, who you know cause he often comes for game night and because you work at his wife's coffee house, even called his brother for help."
"Anyways, Maya gave us the impression that she wasn't interested in Lucas. That is until Texas. Let me tell you now, shit got real in Texas, shit got way too real in Texas. That's why I'm never going back," Zay scoffed, his eyes made contact with Sadie's as he continued, "Once Maya realized that Lucas would be riding Tombstone the bull, one of the craziest bulls, she begged for him to withdraw from the competition. Long story short, Lucas won the rodeo and the title and everyone was relieved."
"But Maya was still pissed that Lucas decided to compete even after she begged for him not to. Then suddenly Riley said she only cared about Lucas as a brother, which hurt him I guess and in that campfire he and Maya had a talk and she finally told him she liked him."
"But before she said that they almost kissed and had this heated moment. Sadly, Lucas picked Riley over Maya in our ski lodge trip but that's a story for later on."
Confused, Sadie raised an eyebrow and asked, "If he picked Riley why did he tell me Maya rejected him?"
"Because she did. After the ski lodge trip Riley and Lucas dated for a while and then broke up because they realized they only liked the idea of each other rather than the person. Lucas finally knew the one he truly cared about was Maya in our senior year and by then he was too late because Maya and Riley had made up their minds and the two of them left for Paris. But I think Maya also rejected him because she didn't want to be his second choice."
"Damn, that's tough," Sadie muttered under her breath, "No wonder Lucas hates dating. He's got bad luck in that department."
The front door opened and Farkle walked in frantically. He slammed the door shut and joined Zay and Sadie on the couch. "Have you heard?" he asked in a serious tone, looking deeply into Zay's eyes.
Zay shrugged. "Heard what?"
"Riley and Maya are back in New York," Farkle replied, tapping his foot on the hardwood floor. "Do you know where Lucas is? I think he'd rather hear it from us than from facebook."
"I was just telling Sadie about the whole triangle situation." Zay said.
Farkle sighed and leaned onto the comfortable cushions that occupied the couch. He buried his face on Sadie's arms, his arms wrapped around her waist. "Sadie, we need your help."
The girl smirked, removing Farkle's powerless body off hers and looked him in the eye. Her eyes were blue like the ocean but under the fluorescent light it seems darker. She put his arm around Farkle's shoulders and said, "Hush, Farkle, momma Sadie has a plan."
