There are some other people at the party - Mark's and Jackson's friends whom Su has seen at the club before. She gets nervous again when a familiar guy enters the doors.
"Minhyuk! You're late!" Mark says, welcoming the guy with a wide smile. "What took you so long, man?" He gets up from his seat beside Su and gives the new comer a quick hug.
Su notices Jackson curse under his breath. He rolls his eyes at the guy. "You wanna go?" He asks, Su, feeling really pissed.
"Hey!" JB says after hearing Jackson. "You just got here."
Su gets uncomfortable, too. She remembers the last time she met him. She still hasn't told Jackson about it, it just slipped her mind since she's too busy with all the studying and adjusting to this new life.
Minhyuk spots her and they lock eyes for a sec, before Su feels Jackson's hand take hers. "Don't you even dare talk to him," he whispers.
"What's up with you, Jackson?" Mark notices how the other guy glares at Minhyuk. "You two had a fight or something?"
"Not really." Minhyuk walks over to their table with a creepy smile on his face. He looks at the girl, "Nice seeing you again, Susan."
"Hi," is all the girl can say. She looks down at her trembling hands, holding onto Jackson's.
Mark notices her discomfort, too, as he goes back to his seat. He sees the linked hands of the two and his brows furrow. "Mark. They're just pretending." He tells himself, forcing a smile on his lips as she looks at him. "Are you ok?" He asks, instead. "You look a bit tense?"
"Yeah. I'm fine." Su tries to feign a smile, but her lips are shaking. "I think I just need some air." She says, getting up, letting go of Jackson's hand.
The house is just too big and she finds herself getting lost in the hallways. She opens a door and closes it immediately after seeing the insides of a wide office. She tries another and then another until she gets in a half bath. Finally in a safe place on her own, she locks the door and a loud sigh escapes her mouth.
"What if he really knows me? What if he tells everybody? What happens now?" A lot of questions run through her mind. She looks at herself in the mirror and a very different girl looks back at her. She sees how much she's changed for the past couple of weeks. Her hair is of a different color, lighter. Her brows, shaped. Make up covering some of her flaws. Expensive jewelry dangling from her ears. Yes...different. She can also feel it deep inside her. Yet, still the same poor girl, with expensive clothes and make up to make her look rich.
There is a part of her that wants to hold on to this new her. A very big part that wishes to erase everything in her past and just live this life of luxury. She's been to hell and back and she doesn't want to thread that life ever again. Although the coping up and adjusting is still hard for her, she knows that it would soon pass and she'd be living a life of wealth once she's done with them.
"That dirty, poor girl is gone, Susan. This is the new you. No one would take this away from you and Jerry. You're finally going to live the life you deserve." She tells herself in the mirror. "Now, go back there and have fun, like you always want it."
She takes a deep breath before opening the door again.
"Susan Lim."
Her confidence earlier start to teeter. Minhyuk is leaning on the wall just by the bathroom door, obviously waiting for her to come out.
