I slowly turned over and shut off the alarm clock blaring next to my head. Ugh, school.
I stood up sleepily and walked into the bathroom across the hall from my room. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and undressed, turning on the shower. I stepped inside and let the warm water seep over my shoulders and onto my hair as I stepped backwards.
Finally I turned off the water and stepped out of the shower to dry myself. I towel dried my brown hair and straightened it. I finished my hair and wandered over to my closet, deciding what outfit would make a good impression on my new classmates. I finally decided on a dark blue sweater with a trail of leaf-shaped holes around the collar and a pair of darker grey skinny jeans.
After feeling confident about my outfit, I headed down the stairs to grab an apple and head out to my car for school.

I walked into the school doors and was greeted with lots of yelling and crowded hallways. I pushed my way through the halls and made my way to my locker, constantly looking down at my map of the school so I would know my classes.
"Hi! I'm Cara! You must be new here! You should totally be my friend, we can even go shopping together!" A girl, Cara, said as I walked into my first class.
"Um...no thanks." I said, thinking more along the lines of the shy kids sitting in the back. They seemed much easier to start becoming friends with.
"Hi, I'm Darcy, I'm new here, can I hang with you guys?"
"Yeah sure, we don't have any girls in our group."
There were four of them, they introduced themselves and they seemed pretty cool. First you had Ashton, he had curly caramel hair and sweet hazel eyes that grew brighter when he talked about anything passionately. Next was Brendon, he was a tall, skinny kid who only seemed to ever speak if he was being directly spoken to, otherwise he was quiet. Third was Troye, he was in the choir and had gorgeous baby blue eyes and chocolate brown curls in his hair. Fourth was Calum, the most interesting of the four boys. Calum was deaf. When his turn came to introduce himself to me, he turned to Ashton and moved his hands around in weird motions. Ashton turned to speak to me.
"This is Calum. Cal's deaf so he reads lip and signs, he can't speak, so unless you miraculously know ASL, then you'll need me or Troye to talk with him." Ashton spoke quickly and all four boys looked at me.
"That's really cool, I'd love to be your guys' friend!" I sat down next to Ashton who was signing to Cal. I'd never met a deaf person before and I was so interested to maybe have Calum teach me sign language.
The classes all went by pretty quickly and soon enough, lunch time was coming around. I rushed to my locker and hoped that lunch at the school was decent cause I forgot to pack that morning.
"Salad and raspberry iced tea please." I smiled at the lunch last and paid as she handed me my lunch and I soon walked over and found the boys. "Hi guys!"
"How has your day been so far?" Troye asked.
"It was amazing! This school is full of so many nice people!"
At that, Calum scoffed slightly and signed something quickly to Ashton. "He says that you obviously haven't met the jocks or punks yet." Ashton interpreted as soon as Calum had finished.
"Are they really that bad? Everyone seems quite nice." I felt a little wary of what Calum had said and now searched around the cafeteria for letterman jackets that usually indicates a sport player. I finally located a group of them towards the front of the cafeteria and sighed. Calum was right. The jocks were all standing around a table of kids who looked to be in band. Suddenly a plate of pasta was in one of the band kids faces and the Jocks walked away laughing.
"They aren't so great anymore are they?" Ashton asked smirking.
"Why did they do that? Those kids didn't do anything wrong." I was truly confused on why the jocks had done that.
"Social order," Troye spoke up, "the band here and lines like us start on the bottom and don't interfere with the higher ups. The jocks, they are the second highest of the school, after the cheerleaders. They're like bats out of hell if you even look at them the wrong way. They're your everyday brats that get what they want cause Daddy is a lawyer and makes money." Troye stopped talking after he realized he was ranting.
"Wow that sucks, the rest of them seem nice at least." I forced a smile and got up to their away my lunch.

••••••••••

"Mom! I'm home and I'll be in my room doing homework if you need me!" I scurried up the stairs and shut the door to my room quickly as I though about all that had happened after lunch.

I walked quickly to fifth period since i didn't want to have a tardy on the first day of school.
"Hey newbie, where's your loser friends?"
I turned around to see for jocks and none other than Luke Hemmings standing behind me.
"Nowhere that matters to you." I tried to stand up to them but my voice failed me and squeaked.
"Wow, that must suck, getting to a brand new school and being friends with the losers."
"They aren't that bad. They're really nice and welcoming of me."
"Whatever, come to the game tonight, you'll see what real people actually do to have fun, instead of play video games and eat pizza."
I turned back around and was walking back to my class when Luke and his other tattooed friend pushed past me and I was slammed into a locker.
"Watch it, bitch." The orange-haired friend of Luke's told me as he walked off.

The rest of the day had gone by smoothly and I had rushed home to complete the homework that I was supposed to catch up on.
Hopefully I can make friends with Luke and not become his Public Enemy #1. Maybe Luke can let me be friends with him and his friends. They seem a little too hardcore for me though.
I looked out my window to see Luke outside his house, on the porch with the orange-haired friend of his. *** They were both smoking and passing a small silver flask between them while mindlessly chatting. *** I finally heard Luke call the other boys Michael while I was doing my work. Michael was much more different than Luke, he swore 2x as much as Luke, who swore plenty and he also seemed to not have a parental figure from what I heard.
After a while, I got hungry and any downstairs to make a sandwich for dinner and when I returned upstairs, both of the boys were gone.
I quickly finished my homework before putting all of my supplies away and changing into my pajamas before climbing into my bed which still smelled like dust and dirt from the moving truck.
