Shay got into her car and called Chantelle but received no answer. She raced to the hospital and saw Devin sitting in the lobby on his phone.
"Now tell me what happened." Shay put her purse in the seat next to her and sat next to Devin.
"Trae's mom came up her and I told her what happened. She scolded me at the fact that she said I let it happen. She told me it's my fault for letting y'all come around him and called y'all hoodrats."
"Oh, hell nah! Where this old bitch at?!" Shay became furious.
"It's not worth it. His mom knew Cayren during the time they were together and she praises her. When he woke up, he tried to explain to his mama what happened but she didn't want to believe it but believes you and Chantelle did something to cause this. After she left, I guess he fell into his feelings and wanted to believe if he stayed with Cayren and would've never talked to Chantelle, then all of this wouldn't have happened like his mama tried to plant in his head."
"Hell no. Do I need to go up there and talk some sense into him?! Matter of fact I think I will." Shay got up and headed towards the elevator. Devin tried to stop her but it was too late, so he rushed into the elevator with her.
Devin tried to talk Shay out of going in there and causing a scene but when the two were close to the room, they walk passed and saw another female in there. She stood by the bed talking to him. Devin pushed Shay passed the room.
"What you do that for?!" Shay shouted, almost tripping over him.
"No, this is a bad time. You don't want to go in there."
"Why?" The two kept walking down the hall.
"If I'm not mistaken, that's Joi, Cayren's sister."
"Okay, so what that gotta do with me walking in there and setting him straight? I'll punch that hoe out too."
"I'm not trying to have anymore drama going on as is. I don't know why she's here. Probably to show sympathy or to dig out information from him so she can run back to tell Cayren. But Joi had a huge crush on Trae a long time ago, when him and Cayren first got together. I wouldn't be surprised if she just up here to make this one of her opportunities to try to get with him."
Once the doctors moved from around the door, Devin and Shay stood against the wall by the room and listened in on their conversation.
"I'm so sorry this happened to you," Joi said.
"Yeah, things happen I guess. I'll get better though," Trae said.
"Well, your mom told me while Cayren is away for me to check in on you when they release you to go home."
"Oh, did she really? I'm going to need you to tell her that I will be fine."
"Trae, c'mon look at you," Joi's eyes looked him up and down as she bit onto her lip. "Let me help you at least during your time of need."
Trae looked at her and became interested in her for a moment."Fine, alright. I'll give you a call."
"Yay! I mean, okay." Joi left her number on a piece a paper and placed it on the tray next to the bed. Then she leaned over and kissed his cheek before walking out of the room.
Devin grabbed Shay's hand and walked to the elevators quickly before Joi entered the hall.
"What the hell happened in there?" Shay asked.
"Man, I don't know what kind of charms these females got but Joi just gave him her number for him to call when he leaves the hospital; talking about his mama said for him to give her a call to help him while Cayren is away."
"What the fuck?! Them bitches crazy, it gotta be something going on." Shay opened her car door, moving the papers out of the seat for Devin to get in.
"I don't know what's up but them hoes better not be trying to hurt my bro. I don't give a damn how mad we are at each other, that's my boy. And I'll be damn if anything happens to him. Did you call Chantelle like I said?"
"I called but I didn't get an answer."
"You need to drive pass her house or something and make sure she's okay. You can drop me off at my place first and we'll talk about all of this later."
Shay dropped Devin off and called Chantelle again but didn't receive an answer.
