Smouldering Love II
(Drowning In Hope)
Chapter 6
"Take a seat." Dr. Zimmerman offered Noah as they entered his office. Dr. Zimmerman's office was filled with book shelves and filing cabinets, there was also a rather large mahogany desk that Dr. Zimmerman was currently sitting behind, he'd offered Noah a seat in front of the desk, which Noah had gladly taken.
"So you're miss Harris's brother I am told?" Dr. Zimmerman looked at Noah through his glasses, then fiddled with some papers on his desk.
"Yeah." He answered.
"There are a few matters I'd like to discuss with you." He paused.
"Go on." Noah wanted to get this over and done with.
"We've been doing regular scans on Brooke's brain and there's is rather a lot of swelling to the left side. If we don't do something about this it could just get worse and she could potentially become blind in her left eye and basically the swelling in her brain could turn her to a vegetable. She could loose her memory along with almost everything else. Now we could quite easily fix this problem but the decision is in your hands. It could very well be a waste if she doesn't wake up."
"What are the odds?" Noah was trying to process this information, it didn't help he really wasn't a morning person.
"Of the procedure being fatal? They're very low. We just needed to run this information past you and get your opinion. Now one last thing. We strongly advise that when we keep patients in a coma that they only stay until we are sure there is nothing we can do to save them. It is however up to the family of how long the patient stays in the induced coma." He explained.
"Brooke's body is recovering quite well, all we really have to do it wait for her to wake up. We would usually suggest that we keep them in here no longer than a week at the least if they have no brain activity. Brooke's brain activity is quite low, I'm almost certain that is being caused by the swelling in her brain. Once we go through with the Cranial Surgery her brain is very likely to become more active, meaning there is a high chance of her waking up."
"Go through with the procedure." Noah answered. "Do everything you can to help her."
"Believe me we are Mr. Davis." Dr. Zimmerman smiled.
"Is there anything else you wanted to talk to me about?" Noah asked.
"No, we are done here." The two of them stood up and shook hands across the desk.
"It was nice to see you again Noah."
"You too." Noah replied.
Dr. Zimmerman opened the door to his office allowing Noah to leave, he walked down the hall and straight back to room 312B, where he would find Brooke.
"How did it go?" Ricky turned to face Noah, while he was waiting he just carried on with what he did every other time he was in the hospital room with Brooke: sat by her side, mumbling sweet-nothing's to her whilst holding her hand.
"Good." Noah said shortly, whilst fiddling with the bottom of his white wife beater.
"Do you know Dr. Zimmerman? he seemed pretty shocked to see you before." Ricky gently placed Brooke's hand back on the bed and stood up from the chair beside the bed.
"Just an old business mate." Noah then looked over at Brooke with a sad face.
"Call me if you get any news." Noah said and left the room.
Ricky so desperately wanted to run after Noah and ask him everything Dr. Zimmerman had said, but Noah Davis was the most stubborn man in the whole town and was not going to tell him. Ricky would just have to settle for his first answer he received from Noah, which was 'good'.
To say Ricky was surprised that Noah actually showed up would be an understatement. He really had convinced himself that Noah would just stay in bed and not bother, but what surprised him the most was how much his attitude towards Brooke had changed, he hated her guts a few days ago and now was crying that she was almost dead. Maybe all Noah needed was to let out the secret he'd been holding onto. They always say not to bottle things up, and this was a fine example of that.

"We will have to kill the boy. He has heard and seen far to much." A evil voice echoed loudly, the voice sounded familiar to Ricky.
"When master? Shouldn't we wait?" He distant voice asked. The room Ricky was in was cold, dark and smelt of mould, he suspected it was a broom cupboard because he was bent like a banana trying not to let things poke into him.
"Why would I wait?" The evil voice yelled. "If this gets out we'll be done for." A different voice gasped.
"Tomorrow night at midnight meet here. We'll be giving that good old eavesdropper something interesting to listen to." His laughed filled Ricky's head and echoed until it was the only thing Ricky could hear, it felt like it lasted forever...
"Ricky?" A mans voice woke him. He looked up and the first thing he saw was Brooke, still in the same state as before he fell asleep. It really was very depressing for Ricky to see that person who he cared for the most looking like that.
"Ha, yeah?" He sat up straight, his heart beating almost out of his chest.
"You're so sweaty, what were you dreaming about?" Zac asked sounding concerned, with a smile on his face that soon disappeared.
"What? Oh it was just a bad dream." He wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead, glad that Zac had woken him.
"Yeah it looked pretty bad, you almost rolled out of that chair." Zac half laughed.
"What're you doing here anyway?" Ricky questioned.
"Oh just visiting."
"And what the fuck is up with your shoes?" Ricky laughed while looking down at Zac's feet. His shoes were very formal, black and pointed at the end. Then Ricky noticed it wasn't just his shoes, his whole outfit was different. He was wearing a pair of tight mustard coloured jeans and a black button up vest. Zac had an embarrassed look on his face.
"You're not.." Ricky then realised what Zac was trying to get at and didn't want to believe it was true.
"I am." Zac paused and looked down at his shoes. "Gay."
