Smouldering Love II

(Drowning In Hope)

Chapter 7

"Where's Zac?" Logan was making himself a piece of toast.

"He's at the hospital with Brooke, he told me to get some sleep, Why?" Ricky asked.

"He's got work at 11, and it's 10 now.. He'd usually be up by now."

"Oh, hey um did you know about Zac.. Err." Ricky stopped himself, partly because he didn't know how to say it, he didn't want to say it because then it would feel more real and he thought maybe Zac should be the one to announce it to everyone.

"That he's gay? Yeah I've known for a bit. I take he told you then." Logan replied.

"Yeah.. Does Noah know?"

"Does Noah know what?" Noah walked in through the back door.

"Oh it's nothing important, just that Zac's in the hospital looking after Brooke." Logan answered. Ricky took that answer as Noah didn't know about it. He knew Noah well and if Noah found out about it he'd be pretty pissed. Not that there was anything wrong with being gay, Noah would just be scared that Zac would crack onto him or something. Typical Noah.

"How's Brooke going anyway?" Logan asked.

"Yeah she's good, well. I suppose. They won't tell me anything." Ricky said annoyed.

"They're doing surgery on her brain and the sooner they do that the more likely she's going to wake up." Noah busied himself with the coffee machine.

"What's wrong with her brain?" Logan and Ricky both said at the exact same time.

"Bad swelling, if they don't fix it she'll be a vegetable." Noah answered shrugging his shoulders.

"Why does he know this and you don't? You've been there since she got there." Logan directed his question at Ricky.

"Dunno, why don't you ask him?" Ricky was still annoyed that he was being left out of all of Brooke's news and the person who probably couldn't care less knew everything. Logan turned his body and faced Noah with a questioning look on his face.

"Are you serious Ricky?" Noah hissed. "Just fucking tell him, it's not like you haven't done it before." He took his coffee in his hand and walked down the hallway. Logan then turned his body again to face Ricky, with the same expression on his face.

"What's going on? Are they like secretly related or something?" Logan laughed. Ricky didn't say anything, because he had just answered his question for himself.

"Bullshit!" Logan's eyes were wide with surprise. "Wow that defiantly beats the fact that Zac's gay!" Logan laughed.

"Zac's what?" Noah yelled.

"Oh shit you're still there." Logan's face dropped.

"Where the fuck is that poof?" Noah shouted.

"Ah.. The hospital?" Ricky answered in a stupid tone, like Noah should have known because they were talking about it before.

"How longs he been a poof?" Noah took a seat next to Ricky on the bench stool.

"Dunno, I found out last night." Ricky said, both Ricky and Noah looked at Logan.

"I've known for a while, remember when he had that girlfriend.. Ah what was her name?" He held his temple.

"Stacey?" Ricky piped in.

"Yeah her, how long ago was that?" Logan took the last bite of his toast.

"About a year I think." Noah answered.

"Well that's why they broke up.." Logan trailed off.

"And I'm only finding this out now?" Noah asked annoyed.

"He was afraid of how you'd react. I would be too if I were him."

"That explains the gardening, and his OCD with the bookshelf over there." Ricky pointed to a neat book shelf on the other side of the room. Each book was straight and in alphabetical order.

"I've been living with a guy who could very well have a crush on me!" Noah yelled with a laugh.

"No I'm pretty sure he's got his crush under control." Logan looked down at his feet.

"I've said too much already, shit is that the time? I better go get in the shower." Logan said quickly.

"Ah no you don't! We both want to hear about this!" Noah sprung out of his chair and grabbed onto Logan's shoulder to stop him from moving.

"Who's he got a crush on?" Ricky stood up from his chair and went closer to where the two men were standing.

"Brooke's.. Err. Doctor. Doctor Zimmerman."

"Ugh that's fucking disgusting, they were probably getting it on in the storage room last night." Noah screwed his face up.

"Which means no one is watching Brooke.." Ricky trailed off.

"She'll be in surgery now anyway." Noah answered.

"Why am I only finding this out now?" Ricky asked clearly very annoyed by it.

"You didn't ask?" Noah suggested. Ricky ran down the hallway, grabbed Zac's car keys from the hook and bolted to the car, within only a few minutes he'd driven to the hospital, found a car park and was inside. He arrived out the front of room 312B, the door was wide open and no one was inside, Brooke bed and all of the machines weren't in there either. Ricky missed out on wishing her good luck, not that she would acknowledge him.

"Hey you're back! You just missed her." Zac walked into the room with a coffee in his hand and a smile on his face.

"Was she okay?"

"She is fine, just relax, Dr. Zimmerman will do a great job." Zac smiled while holding his shoulder to reassure him.

"Trust you to say that." Ricky winked at Zac and started laughing, Zac's face dropped.

"Logan told you, didn't he?"

"Yep!" He replied through fits of laughter.

"Oh shit, what about Noah?" Zac cringed.

"Good luck with facing Noah." Ricky stopped laughing at the thought of Noah. Ricky was current quite jealous of Noah, jealous of the fact he was so close to Brooke yet so far and everything Ricky did was dismissed.

"What did he say?" Zac took a sip of the coffee in his hand.

"I'd rather not repeat it here." The two of them stood in silence.

"I'll take you home, I should be at work now, we can come back when she's out. The surgery should only take about three hours." Zac suggested. The two of them walked down the hallway.

"So how'd you go last night?" Ricky smirked and mentally cringed at the thought.

"It was quite boring, I just watched some tv.. Oh you meant.. No! That would be really unprofessional of him." Zac laughed.

"Like that's ever stopped you before." The two of them laughed.

"Touché."
